Nets' Kidd to visit San Antonio, not Dallas
J. O'Neal might visit Mavs

For now, Jason Kidd's scenic tour of Texas is limited to the Riverwalk.

The New Jersey Nets free agent plans to visit San Antonio on Sunday and Monday and meet with Spurs officials. Nothing has yet been scheduled for Dallas, according to the office of Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz.

The itinerary could still change, especially with Kidd so close to the Dallas area.

If Kidd doesn't visit, it would not necessarily signify a setback to the Mavericks' interest in bringing him back. Kidd and his representatives could still continue talks with the Mavericks.

Kidd, who played in Dallas in 1994-96, is familiar with the team and the organization. Alonzo Mourning, another veteran who is strongly considering the Mavericks, will probably not visit.

Kidd has been an admitted long shot. While San Antonio has nearly $16 million in cap room, the Mavericks would have to acquire Kidd via a sign-and-trade deal.

Nets general manager Rod Thorn has called the idea of such a deal "far-fetched."

Indiana star Jermaine O'Neal is expected to visit Dallas and San Antonio next week, although Mavericks owner Mark Cuban declined to confirm the trip.

"I'm not going to give details," Cuban said. "I'm not trying to avoid anyone, but all the players have asked that we keep this as quiet as possible, and we are respecting their wishes."

O'Neal, a 6-11 inside presence, would also involve a sign-and-trade scenario. Most speculation has focused on him remaining with the Pacers.
