NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Hornets guard Courtney Alexander will miss at least six months with a ruptured right Achilles' tendon and is scheduled for surgery Thursday.

He was hurt in an exhibition game at Orlando on Tuesday.

The Hornets traded their 2002 first-round draft pick to the Washington Wizards for Alexander, who averaged 7.9 points and 1.2 assists last season.

He had impressed new coach Tim Floyd during the preseason and was expected to have significant playing time as a backup.

``It's a huge blow to lose Courtney,'' point guard Baron Davis said. ``He was really coming into his own, giving us that scoring punch off the bench. We've got to find someone to replace him.''
