According to some of the Spurs players, if your team goes to Houston, expect a poor offensive effort................due to the baskets themselves!

Horry sounds off with rim shots

Robert Horry didn't need to fetch a ladder or a level.

The 12-year veteran could tell by just looking at the rims that they were tilted. He could tell by just shooting the ball that the hoops were too high.

The problems with both Toyota Center baskets baffled the former Rocket.

"You should go out there and look at those baskets," Horry said. "Those baskets are terrible. Go look at them. They are not right. They need to fix them. They are too tall and the rim tilts up in the front. You all think I'm joking, go check them out." i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

San Antonio teammate Manu Ginobili agreed with Horry, but fell short of joining Horry in placing the blame of the Spurs' miserable offensive outing on the baskets alone.

But Horry said much of the team's first-half struggles were because of the hoops. The Spurs had to overcome a franchise-low 30 points in the first half i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif to defeat the Rockets 71-67 on Thursday night.

"The rims had a lot to do with it," Horry said. "Because the way the rim is tilted, if it doesn't go in, if it doesn't go straight in and you hit all net, it's going to scrape the rim and rattle out."

The Spurs converted only 11 of 41 field goals (26.8 percent) in the first half.i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif Ginobili had the most problems, hitting just one of seven.

Horry didn't expect such problems with the rims in the Spurs' first visit to Toyota Center.

"The rims are terrible," he said. "They are supposed to be level. That basket is also too high. You'd think in a brand-new building they would get something that simple right."

San Antonio's 71-point outing was its lowest offensive output of the season. The Rockets and Spurs also combined to set an NBA record with 55 points in the first half. It marks the fewest points for two teams in the first half since the shot clock was introduced in 1954-55.

"The rims were bad, but we are not finding excuses with the rims because both teams shot on them," Ginobili said. "We are not going to find the rims guilty of anything."

the world champion spurs? trust me if big shot rob says there is something to it i will give him the benefit of the doubt. in the meantime should we talk about the consistant ond continual whine form you mav fans who cry about the officiating every game? or maybe the whining and complaing the mavs themselves do? oh wait you can criticize and make stupid blanket statements about the spurs but when it comes to the mavs complaining is ok.. you make me laugh. good luck tonight.

Oh, you wanted more?

If Horry doesn't get his way and get those rims straightened out and moved lower then the drive for the third asterisk is going to be pretty tough. i/expressions/moon.gif

(And I am just playing.....)

Well if Horry thought the baskets weren't regulation, why not ask for an offical measurement and correction. I remember a game last year where the Mavs noticed a basket wasn't regulation height. They requested and got an official measurement which found the basket to not be at official height and it was corrected. Of course the Mavs noticed this before play started, but if it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo obvious why didn't the Spurs say something?

Sounds like a bunch of whining to me.

razap - I really don't care to get into the pissing match about asterisks and whose fans whine more, because it's silly, but are you honestly defending Horry's comments? Blaming the rim? Come on, man.

For the record, I remember Jordan blaming an early season shooting slump one year on the new rims and background at the United Center, and I thought that was pretty weak, too.

actually i was just having fun with the bitter posters on the board. since the spurs won and still complained i give it some credence. of all people who would whine why would big shot rob? anyway i must apologze to those i have offended i get a little touchy when people make stupid comments about the spurs.

I see no stupid comment about the Spurs*. Horry was whining like a bitch looking for excuses. Nothing more...nothing less. And after a victory no less.

lol, well i hope you enjoy those two banners because with the moves the spurs have made it doesnt look like you'll be seeing anymore of those.

Also, the rim thing was pretty funny...maybe yall should try that one more often when you play the lakers and mavs (two teams with true title aspirations) considering you havent won against either of them yet.

well considering how bad we have played and trail the mavs by 1/2 game for the midwest i will say i am ok with early season losses and the mavs fans having to find moral victories. look just because you beat the lakers once does mean a thing. when will you learn? championships are not won in november but i guess being a mavs fan you must find something to make yourselves feel better after all spurs fan such as myself want chanpionships not who beats who in the reg season. trust me the mavs will filter away and the spurs continue to pick up steam. well so back to your post "you got me".. wow.. maybe we should just end the season now huh? why don't you chew on 4-2 and 4-1..the last 2 times the mavs and spurs played for real.huh? nice omission. secondly 46-6?.. your record against the lakers and you are trying to say since we have lost to the mavs 2 twice this season? .. are you serious? we will take back the division by the end of the week. have a nice day and enjoy the regular season.. i realize that is all you have as a mavs fan.

Strange point coming from a Spurs fan. Who was calling them title contenders at this point last year?

I only read the last line of your're post. I didn't find the topic interesting, but I thought your last line made little sense so I commented on it. If my response was tepid it's becasue I really have no interest in trash talking with you, but I'm sure there are others who will.

well the premise of this post is 'trash talking'. I just chimed in my two cents.
