I think it is becoming evident that this team can win without Mike Finley. I love him as a player, but over the next few years Howard could replace him. I don't want to trade him just to trade him, but how much longer will Mike Finley really be a mav? Also, Jamison, who I am also a huge fan of, isn't getting alot of PT with Dirk and Antoine at the forward positions, so I say address our weakness maybe at the center and backup PG (how bad is Travis Best so far). I was just interested in who thinks these players could be traded this year, and for what.

Mike's not a build your team around him kind of player, but he can still will the team to victory on occasion, and has for the most part been giving us solid all-around play this year. Combine that with his big contract, and what he means to the team in terms of chemistry and continuity, and I don't think we'll find a trade that's worth giving him up for.

AJ has been the most underutilized resource on the team this year, with the possible exception of Bradley. If that doesn't change soon then we should look at trading him. He's young enough and good enough that I think we could get a strong player in return. The tradeoff for his contract might be some baggage (eg., KMart or Sheed), but I think we should expect a fair talent return if we're going to trade him. Even if he's not fitting in, his attitude and upside are too good to dump for nothing.

Mavs need to trade Finley for Antonio Davis. It doesn't address all the needs, but AD should be able to provide 15-20 minutes and contribute well enough for the next few years.

The Mavs then could address the AJ issue this off-season.

I dont want to part with finley..hes still a good player and loves playing for this team. He's a true leader and a fierce competitor. If we trade anyone then it should be Jamison although I feel we could get substantially more than Antonio Davis for Jamison

I'm all for sending Jamison away before Finley. Fin is contributing to the team and I don't think we can trade and get the value back that Fin contributes. However AJ is soooooooooo underutilized it would be hard not to get a decent return for what we're getting from him.

Trade Jamison. Keep Finley.

What KG said. But I'll explain a little further.

Dirk
He has got to be the team's scorer and rebounder. That is not an option. He has to get shots, and grab defensive boards. He doesn't have to pass per se. But if he passes when it is there (like in LA) he will accumalate assists.

Walker
He needs to be a poor man's Pippen with a little more inside game. He needs to be a rebounder and passer. His scoring needs to be secondary to Dirk, and his scoring needs to compliment the others. In other words, he needs to obtain points within limited FGas... and within the flow of the offense.

Nash
Be the best damn passer in the league. And score when Dirk is struggling.

Finley
He needs to be a defensive swingmen like he was in Phoenix. And a spot scorer on occasion.

Jamison
Needs to rebound and not look to be a scorer. Just do the other little things.

The problem we have been facing this year is that Dirk is not rebounding... and not scoring at his usual clip. Walker is a volume shooter sometimes to the detriment of the team. Jamison comes off the bench and thinks he has to put up 30 shots. Finley has the mindset of Jamison only he starts. And Nash gets assists but he isn't "finding people" that well.

If Jamison leaves the scoring hierarchy becomes much clearer. And the other 4 can find their niche and obtain an identity on the court.

VERY SOON.....WE WILL NO LONGER NEED FINLEY...HOWARD WILL SURPASS HIM WITHIN A YEARS TIME....AND ALREADY HAS DEFENSIVLY AND WITH REBOUNDING......THE SHOT WILL COME WITH TIME.
