View Full Version : Antoine vs. Antawn / From a "Trade Value" Perspective

I will be surpised if both 'Twans are on this team after the Feb 15 trade deadline. I have a few thoughts regarding either one of them potentially being dealt:

1) The Mavs probably offer up Jamison more than Walker. I think this is true b/c Jamison is more of a true 3 and could easily be replaced by Howard. Jamison has contributed as of late - but overall hasn't really earned his paycheck.

2) Other teams (when offered Jamison) ask for Walker. I think Walker is the more desirable "trade asset," b/c he is an all-star, is a complete player, and his money comes off the books after next season...

3) It seems as though GOlden State & Boston took very little in exchange for these "all-star" calibur players - which makes me curious if we could get anything (of any value) at all for them.

I think you are right from the Mavs perspective. I think the would rather move Jameson than Walker

But

I take point number 2. It seems to me that most "big" trades happen because of money.

After all look at the 2 Howard deals. One was done because Washington wanted out from that huge contract, and the other done so Denver could clear a bunch of cap space.

IMO that makes Walker far more valuable in the open market. It doesn't help either that Jameson (though a really nice player) is grossly overpayed. He just isn't a max money guy.

this topic been discussed to the point of making my ears bleed........

but I would still rather trade Walker......I prefer Jamison's catch and spin post game to Walker's dribble and jack 'em up game........see, not a hint of Walker hating.....just favor shown to Jamison.

so please no trash form the Walker mancrushers.......

Seriously I'd rather trade Walker right now and I think his trade value is probably higher right now.

Well, it depends on who the Mavs move in the trade.
In general, I'd probably rather have Jamison. I like his ability to finish around the bucket. I like his shot selection. Plus, I think he'd be just about as good of a rebounder as Walker if given the same opportunities.

Cubes won't trade Walker just to save money.... i/expressions/rolleye.gif

If Walker was to be traded, there must be a very good player the Mavs get in return.....(which won't happen)

I stand steadfast in my Best-for-Melvin-Ely prediction as the only deal that Cubes will make at the trading deadline UNLESS Some other Deal pops out of nowhere that is just too good to pass up. i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

This does not sound like Cubes......only once that I can remember has a deal been turned down because of $..the Grant deal last year....other than that one deal....the precedeint that has been established is that Cuban wants this team to win and $ will not be a factor!

Umm..I think you messed up with the "Quotes". lol. i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

But yeah....Of course it's a gut feeling, Sike. If I really knew what was going on, don't you think I'd have the link to that article/Information? i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif

You said in your first reply that this is not like Cubes. Do you KNOW HIM Personally as to what he will do? No. It's just a "gut feeling" with you, as well. i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

Just because you THINK you know a person doesn't mean you know a person.

Anything you or I do right now until the Trading Deadline is Pure Speculation, nothing more.

I agree that Dallas needs to trade Walker.
I would do anything to get him out of Dallas A.S.A.P
FYI, I am totally 100% serious right now. I would even rather have him playing for the Hawks.

actually I did not say I know him...simply that your comment does not sound like him...two very different things.....also, I did not in any way express to have insight to personal information to Cuban.....if I had your comment would be valid, as it stands now, it is not.

making a comment based upon the knowledge of a public persons public actions in the past is much different than expressing any kind of personal knowledge of his ways or life.... I simply stated that in the past(in public forum) Cuban has not made decisions based upon his desire to not spend $(which was your point)...and even in the one instance that I could remember where it was...I noted it, thus giving slight credence to your point. But to say that one cannot make a point about a public figure's public actions because that person is not known personally is foolish(not calling you a fool, just you comment foolish)....Thus, I can in good conscience make the statement I made...

I think you mean "anything you or I say"......

with that I can almost totally agree, until there is more to go on.......

speculation AND HISTORY is all you have!

Nellie is infatuated with the point forward and Walker fits the descripition. Jamison, has the quickest release in the paint.\
Id have to say Walker has more trade value, he only has two years left on his deal. Jamison has six and has yet to reach an all-star team. That being said you would have to get something awfully good to pry Walker away from Nellie.

Seriously, though...You make a valid point. I never really thought about it that way and you're right. The point I guess I was trying to make was that Cuban HISTORICALLY('cause like you said, it's the only thing I have to go with) has not had any problem spending money. With that knowledge, It's fair to assume that Walker would be getting a new contract following this season(providing he continues to play outstanding)....

And Yes, I meant to say that no matter what you or I SAY, it's merely pure speculation. i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

and HAPPY NEW YEAR! i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

Both 'twans ('toines) are ultimately expendable. I like Jamison for this team, but he is more easily replaced by guys on the bench than Walker is. I agree Walker does have a higher market value.
