Clearly, I have not been paying enough attention this season.

But am I drunk, or is the current 8th seed in the East 8 games below .500?

Dooby you must be drunk because the 6th and 7th seeds in the East are currently below .500 as well.

Is it possible for an eastern conference team to make the playoffs and be in the lottery this year? That would be crazy.

The lottery teams are the teams that miss the playoffs regardless of record ...so NOPE, an EC team will not make the playoffs and be in the lottery. And one or more of those playoff teams will have a losing rrecord, most likely.

However, there should be a WC team or two roughly at .500 that DOES make the lottery.
