Jazz strike first on deadline day.
1280KZN: Utah radio station 1280KZN is reporting that the Orlando Magic have traded guard Gordan Giricek to the Utah Jazz for guard DeShawn Stevenson.

There is also speculation that Magic center Steven Hunter could also be heading to Utah as part of the deal.

Apparently, the Jazz have also made another trade that will send forward Keon Clark and center Ben Handlogten to the Phoenix Suns inexchange for forward Tom Gugliotta and two first-round picks.

What are the Suns thinking?
2 first round picks and a big expiring contract for Keon and some guy I've never heard of?
They have always been great on draft day too.
Does anyone have an idea what the Suns might be thinkin?

I believe Clark is in his last year of his contract and Handlogten is a pretty good prospect.

They did that to make more cap room. There going for some big free agent. If they end up getting a Rasheed or Kobe to go along with Stoudamire, Marion and Mcdyess, watch out.

This is what chad ford from espn had to say

I like what Utah did here. The picks are huge down the road and Giricek is a nice asset that they'll consider resigning. It's also big for Phoenix because of the luxury tax money that it'll save on the deal. As far as the Magic go, I have no idea why they made this trade. They must see something in Stevenson that Jerry Sloan didn't.

the jazz are the anti-knicks. they love to add white guys to the roster. i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

i hope giricek takes off. my fantasy team could use it. maybe he could get off my bench

I think Pheonix trading the picks was still about saving money for this summer's free agency. Remember, picks cost money too. Now, they have even more room to go hard for Kobe, Nash, Kenyon, etc...

Unless they truly think that they can get Kobe. They gave up too much for this deal.

the first round picks are for future drafts... but still, seems like a lot for clark and handlogten (even as dreamy as ben is). guess they really wanted to get rid of googs' contract.

The Suns made the move to save a small fortune in luxury tax for this season.
