NEW YORK -- Houston guard Cuttino Mobley was fined $5,000 Friday for publicly criticizing the referees following the San Antonio Spurs 86-77 win Tuesday over the Rockets.

The fine was announced by Stu Jackson, the NBA's vice president of basketball operations.

Mobley described the officiating as "retarded" and said the officials were incompetent.

The Rockets should turn their jerseys inside-out and with the #5 at the back.

Big sarcasm directed directly to the protesting refs.

He was just critiquing the spelling, not making an valid point of any kind.

The Rockets are really "Tarts", aren't they?

Except for Yao, he's a Smart of the tallest kind...

btw I think fines doesn't really matter to the players. what are 5K for someone who makes millions a year? I think community service would make much more sense.

Instead of being fined, a player should be banned for a game and go to a school to teach the kids about proper behavior and state himself as a bad example.

just a thought...
