View Full Version : Putting money where mouths are

There is no better gauge of public perception than Vegas odds. As of yesterday, here are the futures odds to win the 2004 NBA championship:
6/5 - Lakers
5/2 - Kings
5/2 - Spurs
7/2 - Tpups
8/1 - Pacers
10/1 - Pistons
12/1 - Nets
15/1 - Mavs
15/1 - Grizz
30/1 - Bucks
30/1 - Heat
40/1 - Rox
40/1 - Hornets
50/1 - Knicks
60/1 - Celts
80/1 - Nuggets
80/1 - Jazz
100/1 - Cavs
100/1 - Blazers
200/1 - Raptors
200/1 - Sixers
1000/1 - Sonics
7500/1 - Warriors
Man, would it be tough to bet the Lakers at only a little more than even money. They will have to win at least three tough series to take the title. Yes, they should be favored. But having to fight through the West, they should be getting better odds than that.
I think there is huge value on the Pacers. They should have a much easier road to the Finals than any Western Conference team. They'd probably be underdogs in the Finals, but I'd take a shot at 8 to 1.
I think there is a little value on the Mavs, too. I'd certainly give them a better chance than the Grizzlies, based on their playoff experience from a year ago if nothing else.

I don't think the Nets have ANY chance...I really don't see the Timberwolves winning either.

Yeah, I would have to put money on the Pacers or Pistons. Both of these teams can compete and should have the benefit of an easier road to the finals.
And our beloved Mavs deserve some play. At those odds, that's a good buy.

I hope you mean at those odds.
Because this year's version the T'wolves is the most complete team they have ever had. I can definitely see a scenario where they will win, and yes even with a healthy Lakers team. I don't give them much better odds than Vegas does, but to say that you don't see them winning is a stretch IMO.

Things are starting to get a litte more realistic. Today's odds:
5-1......Kings, Wolves, Spurs
100-1..Rockets, Knicks, Heat
As will always be the case, at least until they get exposed for the overrated team they are, the Lakers are tremendously overplayed.
Good value to be had, as a result, on the Kings, Wolves, and Spurs.
In my opinion, the Pacers might be the best bet on the board.
Excellent value on the Mavs, tremendous value on the Grizz, and a longshot worth playing on the Nuggets.
The other longshots could be 1000-1 and still wouldn't be worth a play.
Think about the T-Wolves for a little bit they have a good back court with spreewell and cassel. They have the MVP and they are 6-5 against the big five on the road.

Give me 20$ on the Mavs. I could use an extra 700 dollars going into the summer.
Give me 5$ on the Heat. At 100-1 those odds are good.
Give me 20$ on the Grizz as well. At 75-1 their odds are low as well.
I wouldn't spend a dollar on the Nets or Kings. They are both highly inflated. I'd say 80-1 on the Nets and 40-1 for the Kings.
and I think we can all forget about betting on the Jazz and Blazers. So why do the Jazz have better odds than the Nuggets?!?!?

100 $ on the Knicks. Itīs a sure thing i/expressions/moon.gif
Seriously I think Iīd put money on the Spursin the west. Theyīve been there before and TD is just awesome. The TPups are better this year then in the previous years but going from the first round to winning it all seems like a pretty huge leap (although Cassell and Spree do have Finals expirience). Kings odds should be better, they really havenīt been playing well lately. And 3-2 for the Lakers? They hould be favored no doubt, but not like this, this is no good bet.
The eastern team I like at this odds is the Pacers. 7-1 is really good.
And finally Iīd put some money on the Mavs too. At 35-1 they are a very good bet IMO. Actually I will put some money on the Spurs, Mavs and Pacers but in Germany not in Vegas.

Does anyone know of a good web site or place near Dallas where I can LEGALLY put money on the Mavs? 35/1 odds are too good to pass up.

Tarzan, that 35-1 would have been really sweet. I think it was the highest they have been all season. But it's already gone. Today's numbers:
5/2...Sacto, Spurs, Wolves
10/1.Dallas, NJ, Detroit
Now then everything seems about right.

We should have taken that 10-to-1 on the Pistons when we could!

I'll take 80-1 action on the Nugs for the heck of it.
$50 bucks returns $4,000. Wow.

I'll cover that action!
