Cavaliers sign center to offer sheet

September 9, 2004

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Free agent center Jake Tsakalidis, who played 40 games for Memphis last season, signed an offer sheet with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.

The Grizzlies have 15 days to match the Cavs' proposal to the 7-foot-2 Tsakalidis, who averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 13.3 minutes last season.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Cavs have been shopping for another veteran big man to back up center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Earlier this summer, Cleveland traded forward/center Tony Battie and two draft picks to Orlando.

Tsakalidis was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2000 draft by Phoenix. He played four seasons in the Greek League before joining the NBA.

Why would Cleveland do it? For a brief time in Phoenix, I thought Bi Jake was going to be a good player. But then the bottom fell out. Not sure why. But he looks terrible now.

And personally I'm not sure why Memphis would even care about keeping him. Between Wright, Swift, Cardinal, and Gasol... they are pretty balanced upfront.

That might be a good spot for Big Jake. Playing against Ilgauskas in practice every day certainly can't hurt his learning process...

at 25 years old, he is plagued by injuries and short on talent. If he doesnt show some talent soon, he could be another Sundov.

Hahaha... If you are referring to the Trade section, that has more history than you know about...

Don't get your little feelings hurt after I point out what a moronic statement that was... And FYI, you might not want to make it a habit of knocking others for NOT posting intelligent stuff when you ramble shit like "If he doesnt show some talent soon, he could be another Sundov." Jake is not the most talented big in the game, (in fact, he is a big white stiff), but it would take two broken limbs and his worst game ever to equal Bruno...
