Warriors sign rookie Flores

September 14, 2004
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Rookie guard Luis Flores signed with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Flores, the leading career scorer at Manhattan, was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 55th overall pick, then traded to Dallas for the rights to Vassillis Spanoulis.

The Warriors acquired Flores' rights along with forward Eduardo Najera in an eight-player trade that sent center Erick Dampier to the Mavericks on Aug. 24.

Speedy and Fisher aren't enough, eh?

Dampier is the real thermometer on whether the trade was good or not, but it'll be interesting to see how Flores turns out.

Good for him. He wouldn't have made our team and at least now he gets paid and if he's lucky may get some minutes to prove himself.

Lucky him. He wasn't gonna be signed here, now he gets a nice payday.

im pretty suprised. He didnt look terribly impressive during preseason, but i did like him at Manhatten. Im glad he got signed, there was no chance of that happening in Dallas.

I doubt if he got a guaranteed contract since he was a 2nd round pick. He will have to earn a contract during training camp.
