Nets waive Lucious Harris

September 15, 2004

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Backup guard Lucious Harris was waived by the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday.

Harris averaged 7.7 points, 1.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 456 games since being acquired in June 1997 as part of an eight-player trade with Philadelphia. His most productive season in New Jersey was 2002-03, when he averaged 10.3 points.

He played a big part in helping the Nets won two Eastern Division titles.

The 11-year veteran finished his Nets career ranked sixth in games played and fifth in 3-pointers made with 236. Harris appeared in 54 playoff games, averaging 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Seems like they are clearing roster space for a future trade. They are now down to 13.

If the Mavs weren't so overloaded at the guard positions, Sweet Lu would be a great pickup for them. He could even start on some nights if needed.

Here comes SAR (to NJ) and there goes Kidd.

Harris is a good player; however, I still wish that they'd have drafted Van Exel instead. Another boneheaded Mavs management decision.

I wonder if Denver has any interest in Harris. Maybe they will sign him insead of Buckner... or maybe they will sign both. They also might sign Ryan Bowen for 800, 000. If they got all three guys, that would put them at 12 players. I think they have enough money... depending on how much money Lu Harris wants. they are only 2.4 mil under the cap

800, 000 to Bowen
1.6 to Harris (if he accepts that)
1.1 (vet Min) to Buckner

This would make the Nuggets a really good team with a lot of balance. Personally, i wouldnt sign bowen... just give Harris the money.

Twelve players? What happened to all of the players they had on that team lol. I figured they had more than twelve especially with the addition of K-Mart. Are Rodney White and Jon Barry officialy gone from the Nuggets?
