Colangelo got the better end of this deal.

Raptors deal struggling center Araujo to Utah

TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Raptors traded former first-round draft pick Rafael Araujo to the Utah Jazz on Thursday for forward Kris Humphries and center Robert Whaley.

Toronto drafted Araujo with the eighth overall pick in the 2004 draft, but he ended up a bust -- averaging just 2.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 111 career games.

Former general manager Rob Babcock was fired in part because of Araujo's struggles. Fans often booed the 6-foot-10 center.

"We wish Rafael well and feel this will be a positive move for both teams," new general manager Bryan Colangelo said.

Humphries averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 129 career games with Utah. The 6-foot-9 Humphries was the 14th overall pick in the 2004 draft.

Whaley averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 23 games with Utah this past season.

Araujo played two seasons at BYU in Provo, Utah -- 40 miles down the road from where the Jazz play.

In his last season with the Cougars, the Brazilian center was the Mountain West Conference's co-player of the year. He led BYU in scoring and rebounding with an average of 18.4 points and 10.1 rebounds. He shot 57 percent from the field and made 72 percent of his free throws.

Colangelo probably sees something the rest of us don't.. I'll be interested to see how Humphries and Whaley (who I've never seen play) develop in Toronto.

Ladies and gentlemen, the balance of power has just shifted.

Colangelo with the Midas touch once again.

Araujo was the most suprising lottery pick of the past decade.

I think this is a kind of pointless trade, but both teams are taking a chance that they might be getting something.

The best part about Araujo was his nickname up in Toronto - Hoffa

I cant believe the Magic would give up anything for that guy, he just can't play in the NBA.

neither team is under any illusion that they are getting anything from this deal, they are both looking to quietly bury the bodies of their past foibles. Everytime fans of either team see those players on their team's bench they seethe and mutter under their breath about where their team is NOT going. If they see some OTHER team's lame "sam bowie" on their bench... 'eh, not so much.
