NBA.com - What's in the black box? Only David Stern knows for sure.

But until then, everyone else is likely to speculate that the NBA is unveiling a new official ball that will replace the current one in the NBA.

A news article on NBA.com reads:

"On June 28, NBA Commissioner David Stern will introduce the NBA's newest employees, as he announces the Class of 2006. Before that, however, he will unveil the contents of the black box below -- sure to change the way you see the game. Check back Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. ET to see what's in the black box.

OK, so I was searching around some different forums and websites about this, and found out that it probably is a new ball and it will look like this...

I liked the old classic design. This seems like just a way for the NBA to make some money.

I knew it!

but wait, how would that ball change the way I see the game? Does it have a gyroscopic camera in it? Or will I just be watching the game 20 dollars poorer after having to run out and buy a different ball in case I needed to play with only an "official" ball.

Is Kobe's picture on the backside, and David Stern's signature on it?

If it is, I am going to go out and buy one tomorrow...........NOT..:(

That may be a new official "practice" ball and supposedly the real in game one is a two tone ball (thus changing the way you see the game), so we can see the ball spin more in the air. we'll find out on Wednesday i guess.

Why is Stern thinking about how to improve the basketballs instead of the refs?

$$$$$$.......getting new balls brings in money.

Training refs better and wasting time trying to solve that problem loses money. In his eyes officiating is not a problem whatsoever.

It's time for a new commish.

Sadly, all commishes will likely be that way....the NBA is trying to make $$ any way possible.

I read on Draft Express that the Celtics used the new ball in their workouts today or yesterday. Supposedly most of the guys didn't shoot it all that well.

Without Cousy, Cowens/Silas, or Bird have the Celtics ever shot well?

Um...in their workouts of potential draft choices. Many guys, most of whom won't be Celtics.

But yeah, still a funny stab.

No, they really have been a joke of a franchise after Bird left and Bias died before he even suited up.

However, they do have a nice young core of Gomes, West, and Green, but that sadly wont translate to Bird/McHale/Parish

don't you think the stripes being different would effect how some people catch and shoot the ball?
I mean I don't like to hate on change, but changing the ball is just stupid

Plus I heard the ball has a sensor in it, that reacts with a sensor in Wades wrist bands to automatically blow the refs whistles. Thats just a rumor though.

I heard the ball thing was just a cover. Stern was actually going to announce that he is a woman and was shacking up with Sheryl Swoops.

that is brilliant...how do i add a picture next to my name?First, it can't be bigger than 50x50 so I reduced it for you in avatar format. 2nd, you have to have a paid subscription to change it yourself.... otherwise there is a post threshold you must be over and once that occurs if you send djbacklash a PM with a URL to the picture he will setup the new avatar.

The file I created for you is attached:
