It's always great to see just how much some of the young, unproven players of today still respect the accomplishments and legacies of their elders...

Telfair Wants The Celtics To Unretire Jersey Number

Boston Herald - Recently acquired point guard Sebastian Telfair wants to ask Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell to request that the Celtics unretire his jersey number 31.

Telfair has always worn the number because hes from 31st Street in Brooklyn, but the number was retired by the Celtics in Maxwell's honor.

I just got his phone number, Telfair said. Im going to call him.

If he really does make that call, Cornbread should tell him that he can have the #, as soon as he wins a couple of championships.

LOL......unbelievable.

Cornbread should cut a $$$ deal so that Telfair can wear that number. Sort of like a naming rights deal.

Just as a proposal---$1MM, plus 7.5% of salary earned while wearing said number, and 2.5% of all endorsement deals earned.

This could work out as a way for former NBA greats to reap some of the benefits of the new NBA economy.

Way out of line, asking a team to unretire a jersey number for you when you've done nothing so far in your career.
