http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Aloha everyone. Thanks for coming to the chat today. All-Star weekend is coming up but it seems like everyone wants to talk trade and draft. So be it.

Kevin (Ny, NY): Chad: Thanks for all your podcasts! Yesterday, you had Nets President Thorn on. He's saying no trade. ESPN is saying Kidd is likely to be moved. Hollinger says Kidd to LA makes financial sense. So what's your call, Kidd to LA? Chances?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: If you listen carefully to what Thorn said, I thought he left a pretty big window open to trading both Kidd and Carter. Like everyone he's not "giving" them away, but I think he'd make a deal if he could get cap room, a young prospect or decent draft pick. The Nets, in my opinion, aren't going anywhere and this may be a rare window to reshuffle the deck and get something back in return. Lakers makes the most sense for Kidd ... Orlando the most sense for Carter.

Andrew Boston: Hey Chad,Is Orlando going to do anything before the trade deadline... Possibly adding a big time scorer? Any chances of getting Maggette or Carter?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Otis Smith was on the podcast last week and said nothing was cooking. But that was last week. When you look at Grant Hill's expiring contract, and the strong play of late by Darko Milicic, they have a package that could probably bring them back a star ... and Vince Carter seems to be the perfect fit for what they're trying to do. Maybe Carter and Jason Collins for Hill and Darko. On the other hand ... from what I can gather ... Nets aren't in love with Darko ... so maybe a third team would have to get involved.

Damian (Buenos Aires, Argentina): Chad: tell me that Deng for Gasol is going to happen, please!!!

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think there's a good chance the Grizzlies and Bulls work out something before the deadline. I believe Jerry West when he says he isn't giving away Gasol, so the Bulls are going to have to give up something. I have a hard time seeing Paxson giving up Deng just because I believe the kid has the potential to be a star ... I'd be more inclined to give up Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas and PJ Brown. I also have to believe that this combo may be a better fit in Memphis. With Rudy Gay coming along in Memphis, not sure how Deng and Gay would fit together.

Majeed (Next Lakers GM): I would trade Odom and Bynum to Minny for KG and then package Kwame with expiring contracts of Mihm, Smush, and McKie for Jason Kidd!!!

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think you'd get the job if you could pull all of that off.

Tony (NY,NY): Isiah is saying no trade, but we all know Isiah...Does he have something up his sleeve?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Unless he's willing to part with Channing Frye and Nate Robinson ... I don't see it. They bought out their best two trade chips -- Jalen Rose and Mo Taylor -- too early.

Paul (Toronto): the raps seem to have what it takes to claim the titanic. do you see them sticking with their current roster (and chemistry) or do they make a move using peterson/caulderon as bait?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: They have a pretty lucrative trading piece with Mo Peterson. I also think teams will be coming hard after Jose Calderon. He's been playing great, but Bryan Colangelo has made it clear that TJ Ford is the guy. That combo could land the Raptors a nice piece to the puzzle. Only thing that might hold the Raps back is Colangelo is being careful not to commit to long term deals to keep future cap flexibility. I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko ... to pair on that front line with Bosh and Bargnani.

Chris (La): If the Bulls make that trade, it HAS to be for Deng. They have Nocioni to fill in the hole at the 3. Who would they have to fill the shooting guard position if Gordon goes?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Sefalosha. I think he's going to be really good. What they really lose is three point shooting. But if the Bulls keep their pick, they can pick that up down the road.

Farouk (Southern CA): According to Chris Sheridan, the Nets are "seriously in the mix" for Pau Gasol. What are you hearing on that? Is it true?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: They have Vince Carter to dangle ... which is tantamount to the an expiring contract since you've got to believe Carter opts out if he's shipped to Memphis. But what else are they offering? Seems like Jerry West will want more. And why bring in Gasol to New Jersey if you're going to lose your back court scoring?

John W. (Gaithersburg, MD): Do the Wizards make a trade for the stretch run? or go with what they have

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think they'd like to move Etan Thomas ... but I don't see a huge market for him right now.

Ozzy (LA): Bibby out of SacTown? Which teams are interested?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think this one has some legs if the Kings can get a taker. The question is who. Lots of talk about Philly, but Billy King says he's sticking with Andre Miller. I wonder if Atlanta would finally be willing to give up an asset or two and spend some money. Probably no given the current ownership fight which has to get resolved soon.

P (NYC): Hey Chad, I don't get why Jerry West is considering moving Gasol when the Grizzlies are in line for a top 2 pick in a loaded draft. An Oden-Gasol frontcourt duo would be draw comparisons to the Spurs' Robinson-Duncan duo. Imagine if the Spurs traded David Robinson during that year! Also, a core of Gasol-Mike Miller-Rudy Gay-Durant/Oden is surely better than a glut of scoring swingmen that would come from Chicago, especially if West takes Durant in the draft. Why would the Grizzlies need/want Miller, Gay, Deng, Nocioni, Gordon, etc?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: This is a good point and the reason that West is asking for a lot for Gasol. I think he's inclined to wait until the summer and see how the draft plays out. If he could get his hands on Oden ... then you'd want Gasol to still be there. I think the difficult thing has been that Gasol doesn't want to be there and that's hard for a young team to deal with. Any leadership they've gotten out of Gasol in the past is gone.

Dave, SLC: What moves do the Jazz need to make to seriously contend for the Championship?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Just talked to Kevin O'Connor for today's podcast and he said that they aren't trading Andrei Kirilenko. If they aren't, I'm not sure what other major chips they have. I think when you look at the age of the team, they're very happy with the results and don't want to rush it. They should be able to get to the second round of the playoffs this year and then will keep building from there. If Ronnie Brewer develops like he's capable of doing, they've already got lots of pieces in place .. really they just need a big defensive presence in the middle.

Adam (Chicago): Who has a higher ceiling? Gordon or Deng?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: In my opinion Deng ... which is why I'd be really reluctant to let him go. I think Gordon is what he is ... a dynamic albeit streaky scorer. Deng is still just scratching the surface.

Tim (Athens): The Cavs need a shooter and/or true PG. Will they get one before the deadline?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: They can dangle Drew Gooden and Sasha Pavlovic ... but the truth is the team doesn't have a lot of assets to get back what they really need. Too bad, would love to see the Cavs have a legit point guard to help out LeBron.

Alex (Miami): What moves do you see the Heat making before deadline?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: They're trying ... but people aren't falling over themselves to get their hands on James Posey. They'll have more flexibility in the summer. If they get something major done now, I think Dorrell Wright will have to be part of the package.

Josh (Madison, WI): With all the hoopla about the Celtics breaking their streak, where is the talk about the Bucks' debacle of a season. Are we finally firing Stotts after getting smoked by the bottom of the NBA's barrel?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Tough to judge a team without their best player. They really miss Michael Redd. I think Stotts will get a chance to turn the team back around once Redd comes back. If he stumbles then ... he'll get the ax.

Andrew (princeton, nj): Any rumors concerning the sonics? I am really hoping that they trade Ray Allen to a contender

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I've been trying to understand why the Sonics aren't in the mix to make a big deal. Team is going nowhere. Rashard Lewis will opt out. Ray Allen's effort is being wasted. To me, Allen is another guy who might be a candiate to go to Orlando. He'd be a great fit there.

Joe (Davis): Chad, will the Warriors get into the trade mix at all? They could put together a really enticing package around Monta Ellis. Would J-Rich and Ellis and a pick be enough for Pau?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think they pulled off their big deal. I think if Jason Richardson could be moved they'd do it. But, I don't see it happening.

Ray (Raleigh): Aloha Chad - going to maui in a couple of months. Are my bobcats going to do anything to address perimeter scoring or is morrison/carrol the tandem for the future? Are the bobcats going to be able to hold onto Wallace or is he gone after this season?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Who knows what they are up to ... keeping costs down is the only thing that comes to mind. I think Wallace will be a hot commodity on the market and it's still unclear whether the Bobcats are going to spend this summer. They are losing money, laying off people and they have the lowest payroll in the league. Not a good sign. By the way, you've got to wonder if the Bobcats are kicking themselves for passing on Brandon Roy. He delivers what they need and I don't think Morrison's college popularity has paid off a the box office.

Jon (Dallas): Hey Chad you see the Celtics making any deals? they need some major help at the point! What players can you see them moving?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Something's got to give. Pierce is unhappy. The team is awful. Too many young players. Danny is going to have to do something. He's trying ... and I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more interest in his young guys.

Montel (Portugal): Who is a better pro prospect, Rodney Stuckey or Morris Almond? My 76ers need a two-guard and I want your opinion on who would be the best fit?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Stuckey. He can play multiple positions and I think he's a better athlete. But I like Almond too. I think both will be really good picks in the 20s ... Stuckey could go a little higher than that with great workouts.

Sujei (Puerto Rico): Please Chad. Same question for 3 weeks and no answerd. Who would you go after in the 4-10 range with atlantas pick if you were the Suns? Thanks

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Joakim Noah ... Brandon Wright ...Chase Budinger ... Josh McRoberts all four of those guys would be good, but to me, Noah is the best fit.

Andrew (Saint Louis): How do you see Alando Tucker's prospects for the NBA?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think he has good pro potential, but the NBA scouts I've talked to aren't sold on him as a lock for the first round. Defensively he'll be able to carve out a position in the pros.

Kellan (DC): Do you really think McRoberts will come out, and be that high a pick if he does? He hasn't really impressed this year.

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: Agree though his play of late has been better. But all the scouts I speak with are still really high on him as a legit lottery pick. My guess is he comes out after seeing his draft stock battered a bit from last year.

Steve (Chicago): With the lack of any top tier point guards in this draft, would it be wise for Mike Conley and Ty Lawson to come out? I think they're better prospects than some of the older guys like Law, James, etc. And what about Bouldin? has has stock tanked due to his low number and Gonzaga's poor play. I still think he has potential if he loses some weight and gets more explosive. And do you think Taurean Green is underrated? He's gotta have a spot in the league.

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think four freshmen point guards, Texas' D. J. Augustin, Georgia Tech's Javaris Crittenton, Ohio State's Mike Conley and North Carolina's Ty Lawson could be first round picks this year. Normally, NBA scouts are wary of freshmen points. It's the one position they really prefer guys get a few years of college experience. However, given the dearth of point guards in the draft, it's hard for me to argue that anyone else (including Dominic James and Acie Law) are really better long term prospects than those four.

Derek (NC): Do you think Ohio State's ineptitude to give Oden the ball is hurting his draft stock?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: No. Scouts see the same thing you do and they also know the right wrist isn't 100 percent. Everyone in the NBA I talk to still believes he'll be the No. 1 pick. They all love Durant and many think Durant is the best player of the two ... but at the end of the day I think just about every team in the league would take Oden No. 1, rightly or wrongly.

Joe (Davis): Why are you the only draft prognosticator talking about Chase Budinger? Almost no other websites have him in their mock draft.

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I don't know about the other draft sites, but I'm pretty sure they aren't talking to the NBA decision makers on draft prospects. I am and all of them have Budinger rated as a Top 10 prospect.

Charles (Miami): I think the main reason most losing teams (memphis, boston, atlanta, bucks) aren't pulling the trigger to make a deal is because of the great talent at the top of the draft. If you have a realistic shot at Oden/Durant/Noah, why try to IMPROVE your team now. Its clear even if they make the playoffs, they're not winning a title. I know I would tank 1 season and take my chances in the draft, maybe make a move in the offseason. Agree?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: John Hollinger addressed this in a column a few weeks ago. Statistically, tanking isn't a great strategy. Even if you end up with the worst record in the league, the odds are stacked against you that you get the No. 1 pick. Look at how the lottery has played out over the last few years if you don't believe me. Overwhelmingly, the team with the worst record doesn't get the first pick.

Ben (Mobile AL): Do you think Hansbourgh will give it another year to improve his draft status in a weaker draft? He seems like a good to great college play but a role player in the NBA? Your thoughts?

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I think he's watched his stock fall this year, which may scare him from staying in school. On the other hand, this is going to be a deep draft and he's probably better off sitting it out. I think he'd be a late first round pick in the draft.

John- NYC: Chad...what about Josh Heytvelt of Gonzaga. While he's still innocent until proven guilty, if he's kicked off the team and comes out in the draft where does he go? I mean murderers and rapists have gotten second chances in the NBA and NFL...why shouldn't he? He has top 10 talent easily!

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I don't think he's a Top 10 talent. But I think he was on the first round bubble before the incident. If he's found guilty, I think it will hurt his stock ... but not kill it. Lots of guys in the league smoke (not sure about the psychedelic mushrooms though). If he can play and realizes he's going to get tested for the stuff in the league, someone will take him. There's too much talent to let it go. Same goes for Boston College's Sean Williams.

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chad Ford: I've got to run everyone. Let's do it again next week ... the day of the NBA trade deadline. Should be a lot of fun.
