What are your predictions for the West? Who will be the first seed? Who will be the 8th seed? Who will miss the playoffs? Even posting todays seeding barely gives us much impetus on what the final list will be.

1) Phoenix 29-12 (70.7)
2) New Orleans 28-12 (70) 0.5 games behind
3) LA Lakers 27-12 (69.2) 1 game behind
4) Portland 25-16 (61) 4 games behind
5) Dallas 27-13 (67.5) 1.5 games behind
6) San Antonio 26-13 (66.7) 2 games behind
7) Denver 24-16 (60) 4.5 games behind
8) Golden State 25-18(58.1) 5.0 games behind
===========================
9) Utah 24-18 (57.1) 5.5 games behind
10) Houston 22-19 (53.7) 7games behind

rest have losing records...

based on pure win %

1) Phoenix 29-12 (70.7)
2) New Orleans 28-12 (70) 0.5 games behind
3) LA Lakers 27-12 (69.2) 1 game behind

Look at the Jazz.

24 wins gets you 4th in the East right now.

It gets you 9th in the West.

I'll play.

1) Phoenix - DAntoni continues to be disinterested in developing a bench. Not a sound strategy for playoff success, but that will continue to equate to sexy looking regular season win totals.
2) San Antonio - They'll get interested again post all star break.
3) Dallas - Not quite on cruise control like the Spurs, but not playing very inspired basketball right now either. Motivation for redemption will help them pick up the pace as the playoffs draw nearer.
4) Portland - They're for real.
5) New Orleans - Not so much a matter of them fading, but inspired San Antonio and Dallas teams will be able to run them down.
6) Utah - Looks like they've gotten their act back together. They'll make a run at Portland.
7) Los Angeles - Injuries are mounting.
8) Golden State - They survive the war of attrition with Denver and Houston.

I'll play too...

1. Suns.

5. Mavericks

9. Rockets

1) Phoenix - run and gun and run out of gas in the 2nd round of the playoffs
2) Dallas - will start to turn it on the last month.
3) San Antonio - They'll get interested again post all star break.
4) Utah - they will get their act back together just in time
5) New Orleans - they need it too badly
6) Los Angeles - Injuries are mounting, but Kobe will keep them in the race.
7) Portland - they are for real, but fodder come playoff time
8) Denver - AI and Melo will rise, just enough to get them in.

You gotta think that the globetrotters will figure somewhere in the 1-4 slots.

BTW, conferences are more useless than toilet rolls that flip so that the roll hangs from the from the top or from the bottom.

Dude - back the f**k up a sec....

I buy my crack from the same guy that David Stern does - he told me this is how they decided the seeding would pan out this season... The only problem is that the Mavs are going to lose to the Generals in the first round instead of the Warriors, but only because Nellie becomes their head coach right before the playoffs (a new rule implemented by Stern to make sure that Cuban will never get a Championship...)

Sorry to piss in your Cheerios, but there's lots money to be made off the WWF-errr-NBA these days - what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas (in tiny holes in the middle of the desert...)

Don't forget that a team from the Northwest division is going to get a top four seed by default.

Tokey41
01-22-2008, 11:30 PM
1. Phoenix - hell of a regular season team
2. Dallas - we'll be ready for the playoffs this time
3. San Antonio - can't count them out... although I really want to
4. Utah - easier schedule near the end, they WILL catch the Blazers
5. New Orleans - great team, but they will struggle down the stretch with that bench if injuries pile up (keep in mind Peja is on that team...)
6. Portland - okay i'm convinced they are playoff fodder, but thats more than what I thought of them before so it's still a compliment... kind of
7. Lakers - if they can suvrive without Bynum
8. Warriors - I just want to see a Suns/GSW series

Denver is the odd team out, but i'm sure 6-8 are interchangeable along with Denver (and possibly Housten)... I see the top 5 in the playoff picture no matter what.

The only change he made was that Division Winners were guaranteed a top 4 seed instead of a top 3 seed.

only Phoenix in first, Denver in 7th and the Warriors in 8th didnt change...thats wild. Still 10 teams are over 55% winning percentage and 2 teams wont make the playoffs. Interestingly enough we are still only a game and a half behind Phoenix despite all the losing.

Im gonna change it up a bit..

2 - Dallas
3 - New Orleans
4 - Utah
5 - L.A. Lakers
6 - San Antonio
7 - Denver
8 - Golden State

Yeah, that's right.. San Antonio 6th seed. And guess what.. they lose to the Hornets in the playoffs. Yup, I said it.

I shall continue with my erie predictions... Golden State beats Phoenix in the first round, Dallas beats Denver, Lakers beat Utah. Then Dallas beats New Orleans but barely. Lakers beat GS. .. Lakers beat the Mavericks.. go on to play ... Boston. It is how it is meant to be, and Stern's ultimate plan for higher ratings.

I also predict that the 8th seed is not going to fall behind 5.5 games back.. Utah will be 3 games back but the rest of the top 6 will be within a half a game of each other.

I'm not sure where to post this, but is it me, or are the Western Conference standings from 1-10 just getting tighter as the season progresses? 1st place doesn't seem to be very far off from being 9th at the moment. Not very comforting..

1st round:

SA over GS ;
PHO over DEN in a most exciting offensive showdown;
LA over UT;
NO over DAL (our homecourt advantage negated by NO being the 2nd-best road team in the league, and by NO's stifling D)

WC semis:

SA over LA;
NO over PHO;

WC finals:

SA over NO in 7. Chandler/West give Duncan a massive headache but experience still prevails over youth.

Call me delusional, but I think the Mavs have a legitimate chance at a top 4 seed still.

we really need 11-12 wins in these last 14 though for that to happen... it's difficult, but not impossible.

However, I think the Lakers will get #1, just based on the remaining schedules.
