East is getting stronger...ugh

The Cavaliers have had ongoing discussions with the Miami Heat about an Anderson Varejao and Wally Szczerbiak for Shawn Marion trade, a league executive familiar with the discussions said.

I know Marion hasn't quite worked out for the Heat, but that's just giving him away.

Put a freaking question mark in the thread title, dude. There's a 90% chance this trade will never happen, and your thread title makes it sound like it's already official.

and Marion is already in the east.

I doubt this trade happens. Just doesn't make a lot of sense for Miami. The article also suggested Miami is discussing possible trades involving Marion with Sacramento and Toronto.

The thread title is definitely misleading.

Very misleading thread.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Yeah, it's only mentioned that discussions have occurred...not that a deal is done.
That's just lame.

Marion has seemed to be ready to be shipped out ever since he got dealt from Phoenix.

I think with the way things have gone down in Miami, Marion could be a changed player now. I would def. take a look if we can throw anything out there. I think he would fit well in this Dallas team with Kidd and Dirk.

Maybe I'm just missing something obvious based on the numbers with Marion and the Cleveland guys.

Does Cleveland just want to use him as a rental and see what happens and potentially free up that space to try to get a bigger fish next summer to make their last effort to keep Lebron? Marion is a free agent after this year, isn't he?

IF this trade somehow happened, give the Championship to the Cavs.

Cavs just say no. Varejao is a rotation player on the 2nd best team in the east.......Marion will not add anything, he will take away chemistry. He's had a hard time getting in with Miami and should have an even more difficult time with Cleveland. Marion should have enough motivation in Miami, number one his contract. Number 2 this is a very good, young team, with Wade, Chalmers, Beasley and Cook....no reason for him not to be motivated.

Marion has benefit from the run and gun Phoenix act and now has been exposed...he was a stat machine in Phoenix because of the suns pace..Cleveland can have him.

You guys are out of your minds if you think Marion isn't a huge upgrade over Varejao and Szczerbiak.

Marion shutting down Pierce or Allen.

Lebron destroys Boston in the East Finals.

Merry Christmas Lebron if this happens.

I thought the Cavs with Mo Williams and Lebron were already beasts as it is and could potentially go to the Finals. To add Marion to that core with Ilgauskaus is dangerous. They're building a fine team.

Williams - Rondo
West - Allen
Marion - Pierce
Lebron - KG
Big Z - Perkins

I was going to come in here and give kudos to someone for actually putting "rumor" on something, but looking at the mod log I can see thig had to do it.

Way to go.

Seeing Pierce get hounded by two physical guys (LeBron and Marion) all series long would make my day(s). Since Der Stern already got his nostalgia kick from the Celts/Lakers last June, he might want to push for a LeBron/Kobe finals this year, especially with them being widely regarded as the two best players in the league this year.

Gotta admit... that would be very exciting to watch.

The Lakers will not be in the finals.

Yeah... they will. It's going to be Lakers vs. Celtics or Kobe vs. Lebron. Either way, Stern wins.

How about a Mavs BS trade? Stack and Bass for Marion?

The Lakers will not be in the finals.

Who then?

--

Personally, I don't mind if Marion goes to Cleveland. If the Mavs aren't winning it all, I'd rather the league be polarized (top heavy and bottom heavy) just to make a few playoff series really epic even though the 'anybody can win it' playoffs are really exciting, it's usually kind of forgettable.

If Marion gets to Cleveland (at that price), it would be Michael vs Detroit all over again out East. Epic.

According to the Miami Herald and two other league sources the teams haven't even been in trade discussions. Terrible rumor to begin with.

If you watched Suns games or followed the NBA/fantasy sports...Marion was putting up great numbers before Nash and the 7 second or less offense was there (20/10 and blocks and steals).
