Allen, Finley are finalists for sportsmanship honor

NEW YORK (AFP) - Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen and San Antonio Spurs sharpshooter Michael Finley were among the finalists named Thursday for the National Basketball Association Sportsmanship Award.

Six finalists, one from each NBA division, were selected by a seven-member panel of former players with a vote of current NBA players to determine a winner that will be announced after the regular season ends in two weeks.

Other finalists include Denver?s Chauncey Billups, Washington's Antawn Jamison, Detroit?s Antonio McDyess and Frenchman Ronny Turiaf of the Golden State Warriors.

The winner will receive the Joe Dumars Trophy, named after the former Detroit Pistons star and Hall of Fame guard who played 14 NBA seasons and won the inaugural sportsmanship award in 1996.

Grant Hill won the award last year while Sudan-born Briton Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls took the honor in 2007.

Wow I didn't know there was an award for that.

Is there a bench warmer award?

Nice to see Finley getting the recognition he so richly deserves. Bet he never would have been nominated if he had punched Jason Terry in the nuts.

No Rasheed? That's B.S.

Finley isn't a bench warmer...

It's obviously not going to be confused with the MVP award but it is given out with the rest of the season awards.

I would think this one would mean a lot since it comes from the players and not the media.

Let's just hope he doesn't get caught with a prostitute in the playoffs.

Wow good for Fin. Says a lot about his reputation around the league for him to get such a nomination.

Let's just hope he doesn't get caught with a prostitute in the playoffs.Little bit tone deaf?

Not that we don't have care for our tone-deaf members around here. It takes extra care, but by golly, it's worth it. The retards aren't going to be accepted anywhere else.

And good heavens, don't we love our tone-deaf retards around here. The board would not be the same without them.

Wow good for Fin. Says a lot about his reputation around the league for him to get such a nomination.

I think it would be an honor to be recognized by peers instead of the media.

I remember Finley was voted one of the 5 toughest players in the league by players in the league in one of his final years with the Mavs.

That doesn't mean it won't be a popularity contest like it is with the media so that's why I think Allen will win instead.

Bottom line is, people can say he's past his prime, they can say he sucks or whatever but he has shown CLASS EVERY SINGLE YEAR he has been in the NBA.... This is just a testiment to the person he is. He's always done things that people don't realize.

When I read that he purchases and donates I believe 200 tickets for under privaledged (sp) kids in San Antonio to EVERY game, I thought that was great. I wasn't aware he did the SAME thing in Dallas. Never asked for it to be mentioned but still does it out of the kindness of his heart, very nice!
