GS beat Minnesota tonight for Nellie's 1,333rd win, the most in NBA history. What an accomplishment. Congrats, coach!

Careful with the gifs--you wouldn't want to piss anyone off. ;)

1,333 wins is pretty impressive...but just imagine how many Bud Lights!

Seriously...this record is won without a whole lot of fanfare, but if you stop and think about it, it's as impressive as they get. All the guy ever did was win.

Chum - I don't hate Nellie so don't take this the wrong way, but I genuinely would have bet my left nut that you would have posted in this thread. ;)

Likewise, if Shawn Bradley had ever set the all-time blocks record, well, my right nut would still be my property as well.

Congratulations, old man!

And btw, thanks for memories (also the bad ones), coach! I'll drink one for you today ;-)

Just to be clear, I don't even like Nellie that much. I think this is an incredible accomplishment, nonetheless.

This rates right up there with whoever holds the record for the most posts on D-M.com

you coach for 34 years even at .500 and you can get 1,394. Its as much about how long as he's been in the league as anything else. There are at least a dozen better coaches than Nelson but he's been able to stick around in the league so...congrats on sticking around for 34 years

That might be why it's called "NBA's winningest coach" and not "best coach ever." ;)

Congrats to the Don! Thanks for the memories (the good ones, of course)! Although his teams didn't play the best defense, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching his Maverick teams play. On a side note - I wonder if he gets in the hall of fame...

I wonder who the winningest player is.

Without looking it up, my first guess would be Robert Parish.

Not ugliest, winningest!

Hmm, yeah. He could be both.

I wonder if there might be a causal relationship.

Parish is an ugly dude, but by no means is he the ugliest NBA player ever. There have been far uglier players than the Chief.

I mean, seriously, do you think Robert Parish is uglier than Sam Cassell? Or Mike Bibby? Or Popeye Jones? Or Michael Ruffin? Or Tyrone Hill?

It's gotta be Kareem by a mile.

I can't find the answer to that question, but from the start of the '99 season to now (the Dirk era), team games won look like this:

SAS 661
DAL 618
LAL 616
PHO 569
DET 551

It's gotta be Kareem by a mile.

I'm guessing Parish because he has the most games played by a pretty wide margin, and he spend most of his years with pretty damn good teams. But yeah, Kareem is a likely choice too. (Still too lazy to look it up.)
