With a little delay the financial crisis has hit the NBA...

NBA will increase fines for technical fouls

Will this new measure cause the technicals to be less?

NEW YORK (AP) -- Technical fouls will become twice as expensive this season.

The NBA informed teams that fines for technicals will double from last season's amounts in a memo, the contents of which were confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday.

Players and coaches will now be docked $2,000 for each of their first five technical fouls. The costs rise to $3,000 for the next five, followed by $4,000 for Nos. 11-15. Starting at 16, players are suspended one game for every two technicals, along with $5,000 for each.

The number of technicals could rise this season with the NBA seeking to halt complaining about calls. They will now call technicals for overt gestures, such as punching the air in anger, even if it's not directed at a referee.

National Basketball Association... which nation are we talking about, China?

Stern's rules are as un-American as you can get. Look for an increase of fixed games in the NBA - it's not like anybody can bitch about it!

EDIT: this guy is going to be broke in a year...

If Stern ever issued him any. He's not even top 24 in the league.

(Dirk is #8 with 10...Sheed is #1 again with 17)

Surprised they didn't make punching the air in celebration a technical also... to prevent this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgwewDrvivQ) from happening again in the future, of course.

first off, when are they gonna quit with these outrageous amounts for fines? I mean seriously 2 grand for a tech is like 20 bucks in laymen terms. Now 10 grand for a tech... now we're talking. Now I can understand getting fined 2 grand if you get caught flopping...in which the entire Spurs roster would pay a hefty lumpsome for the duration of the year.
