PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia 76ers guard Aaron McKie could miss at least the start of training camp after having arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday.

McKie, the 2000-01 Sixth Man of the Year, is expected to began rehab next week and return to full activity in 3 1/2 -4 four months. Training camp begins the first week of October.

McKie sat out 34 games due to injury last season, including four following surgery on the same shoulder. In 48 games, including 16 starts, he averaged 12.2 points and 3.7 assists.

McKie averaged 11.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists while helping the Sixers reach the NBA Finals in 2001. He signed a six-year contract worth a guaranteed $35.5 million last July. Philadelphia was eliminated by Boston in the first round of the playoffs this season.

``The results of the surgical examination were very encouraging,'' said Sixers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy, who assisted on the surgery.

The 40-minute procedure was performed by Dr. Gerald Williams at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia.
