This just in from the AP wire. You have been selected as the GM of the new San Angelo Spares an NBA franchise to open on January 1.

David Stern in the interest of getting the Spares up to speed as fast as possible is letting you take players from any team.

I need your 12 man rosters. A rules to keep in mind.

1. You budget cannot spend more than $45,000,000

2. Your owner has instructed you not to take any players who salaries increase more than 50% next year. In other words you cannot hide a Shawn Marion at 2,000,000 this year because he stands to make 10,000,000 next. He would count as a $10,000,000 a year player.

3. You must have 12 men on your rosters.

So what is your team.

For a great link on salaries try this. Just click on the team who has a player you might be interested in.

GREAT thread - I assume we can't take someone who will be a free agent next year.

I'll do my team tomorrow - the salary site crashed.

Ok, I will add a couple of rules.

Yea, MFFL I think we probably should be unable to take soneone who is a free agent next year. Unless they are making more than $10,000,000 currently.

Also I know that site isn't fully updated with rookies. So let's just say all rookies will count $4,000,000 against the cap unless their salary is listed.

You need two more backups as well.

Ok, substitute Kirilenko for Mason and that should take care of the 45MM.

As far as more backups, I am confused i have a 12 man roster? I might be missing something.

My bad - you had two backups listed on a couple of lines. I just saw ten lines and misread. My apologies.

When do we start discussing the teams? I think a statement from each GM about the team makeup would be good and then put it to a vote maybe?

oh i'm going to do it!
But you changed the rules, so i'm going to have
to re do it. My team is clearly going to be retarded no matter
which way you look at it! i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

With most of my favorite centers becoming free agent centers(Duncan,J.O'Neal,B.Miller) picking a starter was not easy. Illgauskas & Gasol add scoring in the post while Wallace and Magloire provide the gritty play. The small forward position has the strong defending Peterson as the starter with the balanced Mason and Turkoglu behind him. The shooting guard position is owned by McGrady and Wagner adds scoring punch off the bench as a combo guard. The point guard position doesn't really feature a true point guard (Dre Miller was my choice but he is a free agent to be) so I went with Jason Terry and the vet Bobby Jackson who were both great values. Pepe Sanchez is the team mascot and best 12th spot contract to have ($587,435 with a slight increase next year).

C: Z.Illgauskas, Jamal Magloire
PF: Ben Wallace, Pau Gasol
SF: Morris Peterson, Desmond Mason, Hedo Turkoglu
SG: Tracy McGrady, Dajuan Wagner
PG: Jason Terry, Bobby Jackson, Pepe Sanchez

Tracy McGrady $12,072,500
Z. Ilgauskas $12,224,086
Ben Wallace $5,000,000
Pau Gasol $3,193,680
Bobby Jackson $2,700,000
Jason Terry $2,153,934
Dajuan Wagner $2,298,840
Hedo Turkoglu $1,300,920
Desmond Mason $1,235,880
Morris Peterson $1,033,320
Jamal Magloire $1,121,280
Pepe Sanchez $587,435
-----------

Total: $44,921,875

Cool thread!

PG Jamaal Tinsley $805,320 $861,600
PG Jason Terry $2,153,934 $2,933,658

SG Tracy McGrady $12,072,500 $13,279,750
SG Emanuel Ginobili $1,396,500 $1,543,500

SF James Posey $1,723,606 $2,445,797
SF Andrei Kirilenko $893,400 $955,800

PF Elton Brand $4,895,656 $8,000,000
PF Brad Miller $5,270,000 $8,000,000

C Tim Duncan $12,072,500 $13,279,500

Project Nene Hilario $2,098,560 $2,255,880
Project Stephen Jackson $587,435 $2,000,000
Vet Bryon Russell $1,400,000 $1,540,000

2002/2003-$45,369,411 2003/2004-$55,555,485

Money Players: Tim in the post, T-Mac on the perimeter.

Three man Big rotation: Duncan, Miller and Brand (sounds like a law firm)

I would assume Tinsley would be a better starting PG since he is mostly pass first. The starters have enough fire power with T-Mac and Duncan, not to mention Brand and Posey on the offensive boards.

Need D? T-Mac, Manu, Kirilenko, Miller and Duncan.

Need O? Terry, T-Mac, Posey, Brand and Duncan, who do you not guard?

Need small ball?Tinsley, Terry, T-Mac, Posey and Brand.

Need tall ball? T-Mac, Manu, Posey Duncan and Miller.

Need Versatility?Bring Russell off the bench to show the team the proper form when getting pushed off, on, in the playoffs! i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

Need young and atheletic? Stephen Jackson (6'-8" swing man) and Nene Hilario (6'-11" PF) can get up and down the court, slash and shoot with range.

P.S. Brand, Miller and Stephen Jackson are free agents next year. I just put a near max number next to Brand and Miller's names.
