News report just indicates that Spree was arrested at 3AM after being stopped for a traffic violation and spent several hours in a Midtown police precinct house. Spree was arrested for having unpaid outstanding citations for a moving violation.

Old Trouble just follows him around.

Hey is Spree's defense, he's probly gotten into the habit of officials ignoring moving violations while playing in the NBA. i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

Ga. woman asks court to declare Sprewell father of her child

March 3, 2003

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Georgia woman on Monday asked the Manhattan Family Court to declare that New York Knicks basketball star Latrell Sprewell is the father of her 14-year-old daughter.

Mitralene Morrow Maclin, 31, of Columbus, said in court papers that Sprewell, 32, has acknowledged he is the father of her teenage daughter, Aquilla, and has been paying $2,000 a month for the girl's support.

Maclin's lawyer, Suzanne Bracker, said her client wants increased child support, secured by a court order and not just Sprewell's good intentions. To get the court-ordered support, Bracker said, the court has to declare that Sprewell is Aquilla's father.

Sprewell's agent, Bob Gist, did not reply to requests for comment.

Sprewell and Maclin became sweethearts in 1987 at Washington High School in Milwaukee, Bracker said, and their daughter was born May 15, 1988. The lawyer said the two young parents drifted apart after going to different colleges.

After attending the University of Alabama, Sprewell was signed by the Golden State Warriors in 1993. That year he started giving Maclin $2,000 a month in child support, Bracker said.

Sprewell was traded to the Knicks in 1999.

Bracker said Maclin is ``seeking an order of child support in the amount equal to 17 percent of the adjusted gross income of the respondent (Sprewell)'' and payment for medical, dental, educational, summer camp and other expenses.

Sprewell will earn about $40 million over the final three years of his contract.

Really rookie orientation for NBA players should include the proper application of a condom.
