Nope! Would kill our cap space for next year and doesn't fit the youth movement. I'll pass.

Love keeps getting injured and concussed and he’s a stat passer. With DeAndre we should be set on the glass. Also they’ll get back more than we are willing to give. They will at least want one asset for him.

He's going to do it remotely since he's on vacation... Still haven't heard word of the contract being finalized though.

A couple cool Mavs/DeAndre stats:

- Mavs have finished top-10 in roll man PPP every year since 2012

- Clips shot 3s better with him on the floor than off it every single season of his career

- Jordan had more dunks last season than the Spurs

Jordan is like Shaq under the hoop. Once he gets it there, it'll be a dunk, layup, or foul. He may only have a 3 foot game, but it's a dominant one.

Gravity too. It was amazing how even Tyson had that gravity under the hoop. Always pulled 1-2 defenders which made the mid and long range more open.

I hope Deandre Jordan will love playing here and will be helpful in recruiting future members of this franchise in pursuit of another title. Anyway, I was very upset that he stayed in L.A., but it could have been worse. At least he sees the error in his ways now and it at least giving us a year. Baby steps.

I can't imagine that he has much juice in that dept. After all Chris Paul left him in the lurch after begging him to stay with the Clippers

Looks like Jordan got $22.9m instead of $24.1m, with the difference and remaining cap space going to Dirk ($5m).

Lol, I'd say he owed Dirk most for what happened... $1.2m hardly makes up for it, but Dirk seems to be happy he's here, so that's good enough for me.

Also...

@espn_macmahon: Sources: DeAndre Jordan's salary for his one-year deal with the Mavericks is $22.9 million. He would have made $24.1 million if he opted into the final year of his contract with the Clippers. With no state income taxes in Texas, Jordan didn't actually take a pay cut.

@espn_macmahon: Mark Cuban told ESPN that the desire to win in what might be Dirk Nowitzki’s last season influenced the Mavs’ decision to target DeAndre Jordan over DeMarcus Cousins. https://twitter.com/espn_macmahon/st...58979269390337

While I like Cousins' skill-set before the injury, this may end up being a blessing in disguise. At best for Mavs, Cousins would've accepted 1 year salary. Otherwise max or near max multiple year deal. And hey, Mavs can see how Cousins is after the injury and make a run at him next summer.

I like Jordan's fit better, he won't demand ball and lets DSJ and Doncic develop naturally. Both rooks need ball in their hands and Rick has given ball a lot to Barnes. With Cousins it would've been too much, especially with his character.

Also have to factor in that Boogie won’t even step on the court until late January at the earliest. It would have been a colossal mistake to give Boogie a near max/multiple year contract or even to give him what DJ got. Dude is not going to be the same player he was before the injury. Also his defense was suspect at best before the injury. He’s going to be Dirk level bad on defense now.

An eight-time All-Star and four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year award winner, Mutombo told Mavs.com that Jordan has the skills to clog up the middle and create havoc inside the paint for anyone with the audacity to drive to the basket. And that, he said, will be a huge bonus for the Mavs.

“I like him,” said Mutombo, who played in the NBA from 1991-2009 and is in Las Vegas to watch the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 20018. “If they can play the perimeter game and leave him in the middle by himself, that will give him the room to get 20-30 rebounds every night.”

He's right, and Jordan fits perfectly into Rick's schemes. Guys like Zaza and Ben Wallace looked like megastars because of it. Even Dejuan Blair looked good. There is just something about a large guy who can suck in rebounds that works so well because Rick doesn't really demand that of his other positions.

Anyone having buyer’s remorse after the Denver - Brooklyn deal? Brooklyn took on $21 million in salary for a year and got a first rounder out of it. Mavs would be less competitive this year if we do that deal in lieu of signing DeAndre but damn it’d be nice to have a first round pick & someone like Clint Capela incoming next offseason.

No, If we want to be a big FA Player next Summer we have to showcast D&D.

That works 100x better with Jordan...

And Capela wont be an UFA next Summer, Morey isnt stupid

I don't have remorse at all. It's top 12 protected just in case something catastrophic happens injury wise. And it likely conveys as a pick well into the 2nd half of the 1st round(not a lotto pick). Meaning they took on 21m+ and likely will be drafting in or around the 20's in a draft that looks very underwhelming.

Much rather DAJ now AND have a shot at Capela next offseason if he is an UFA next offseason.

And how can you have buyer's remorse with DAJ concerning a trade that two other teams did? Makes no sense. They could still make that trade, and Dallas sits with 20 mil in cap space with nothing to show for it.

Honestly though, do you really want to have another season where rebounding just isn't happening?

I was all for taking on that salary if it meant including their pick from this year. Next year, not so much though. And having DJ play with D&D (great acronym btw), that will showcase what they can do for Capella next season hopefully as an UFA.

DeAndre looks skinnier, Rick looks taller... What kind of photographic trickery is this?

But yeah, Deandre is a physical specimen and is known to take care of his body. The fact that it's not even August and he looks like that shows why you pay 24 mil for him.

So lets hope it works out and Casey Smith gives the green light for another fat three or four year Deal.

I like that too but we seem to have a triple-double of D&Ds on this team

Dennis/Doncic
Dirk/Deandre
Dwight/Devin

Should have re-signed McBuckets and then we would have had another one...Dorian/Doug

I know, boring time of year when the corny stuff comes out.

yes! BUT at a time when the West is really really tough. Not really going to do anything there for a few years. But maybe that actually puts Mavs in a nice position, because it will still be a few more years for them, as Doncic and DSJ mature and develop.

Exactly. This is the rebuild that people have been waiting for since 2011. Team had to try though with Dirk still being prime-ish a lot of those years, so it's hard to really blame anyone.

And you end up with Doncic and Smith jr in the long run, so it's all good for now.
