In a real bad effort overall DJ stands out... as the most bad. Outhustled on boxing out yet poor help defense.

We saw this last night with Luka right? It's incidental contact so no worries, this review will be just like last night right? No call it's incidental contact according to refs last night.

So frustrating watching lack of concentration or effort kill us.

I just don’t get why we try so hard to let other run the offense or make plays. Let Luka and DSJ run the Dann offens enabdevey rebound should end up in DSJs and Lukas hands before crossing mid court and too many times it doesn’t and DJ, Barnes or Wes end up doing something stupid.

Every team loses, guys.

Home-away B2Bs are hard. Particularly when it’s home-away-home.

I just saw history happen. Dirk checked in for his 21st season. We may never see another player play 21 for the same team ever again

Turnovers and outhustled. There is too much to tear apart about this one. B2b or not you dont want to start a though stretch of games with this loss.

Bullets:
  • First game of the season that I'm really pissed at the team. These are the losses that suck because it's mainly based on effort. You can't let a 4-100 team with key injuries dominate you for 48.
  • This is especially discouraging giving our upcoming schedule. Many road games against quality opponents.
  • I think it's important that you come out firing against bad teams. The longer you let them stay around, the more they might feel like they could actually steal one. This is what happened tonight. Their confidence late was a difference maker.
  • If you want to know how the game went, let me present you a random possession of the third quarter. As they often do they passed the ball to DJ at the free throw line and he was standing there with literally nobody making himself available. DSJ and Barnes just stood at the three point line... DJ then tried to force feed it to Wes in the post and the ball sailed out of bounds. That was horrible, but shows how the evening went. No movement on offense generally was the main issue.
  • Three point shooting additionally sucked the life out of the team. You could feel that we were hesitant to take them down the road, resulting in many halfhearted attempts to drive. Luka often got stuck and then had nobody to pass to, because no movement again. If we make four more (lol), we win this game. You can probably say that about many games, but it's more true on a 5-33 night...
  • Couldn't really enjoy Dirk being back because of this crap showing. ffs...
  • I know we missed JJB, but this game was on the starters again. DSJ looked like shit, and he took the ball out of Luka's hands too often. 10 TOs for DSJ and DJ is just too much. Not that Doncic had it going or anything, but it's one of those nights where we want to play through our star more consistently.
  • Who the fuck is T.J. Warren?
  • These games show that we miss a veteran playmaker in the starting unit. For the Suns Ariza and Crawford came up big in crucial situations while Wes and Barnes both choked. As good as Luka has been, these are the growing pains with a young team. Maybe you want to bring in JJB with the starters in similar situations.
  • Sacramento is a must win and people better realize that the playoffs are still a long-shot and would be an upset in the West. It's easy to get carried away when Doncic pulls a miracle like against Houston, but good teams simply don't lose like we did tonight.

Yeah you canít just shrug off this loss. Easily the worst roster in the league without their star player. All losses arenít equal. This is the beginning of a long slide coming.

That’s insane.

Good teams lose to bad teams all the time. It 100% happens and this is coming from someone who sat in row 7 through the whole painful thing. It shcks but it happens.

Suns have beat the Grizz, Mavs, Spurs, and Bucks
Bulls have beat the Thunder
Hawks beat the Nuggets

We lost one game against a team we were 0-6 against, on a B2B, when a new player entered the rotation, after arriving in Phoenix at 1 am, playing without Barea but by all means, predict a huge losing streak based on this one game instead of accepting all of those facts.

The few take away a you can get from tonight
1) Suns have our number
2) the league is way too fast and strong for Dirk now
3) Kleber and Barea are super important
4) Doncic gonna have some rookie moments
5) smith might be terrible
6) Brunson is impressive
7) Powell is terrible shooting threes and should never do it
8) Mavs were just tired. Unforced TOs, no arc in jumpers, inability to get back

I'm not in the trade Smith camp, esp not after a bad team effort, but I can see why others feel his fit with Luka isn't there.

I don't get who is not seeing that these 2 players don't work together well. These player types... Doncic with JJ and Doncic with Brunson work well. Brunson is nearly as calm as JJ and has nearly the same playstyle.

DSJ is just not a fit next to Doncic.

But yeah it was a team loss tonight, the whole team suckt. Especially in defense!

Yeah, I can't get too disappointed about this loss.
I remember back many years ago when we were one of the top teams and lost to a lowly Wolves team with KG and 3 other starters missing.

Lack of effort is common when playing teams with bad records. Certainly not excusable but understandable on a B2B road game playing the worst team in the league.

Now they just need to get one they aren't supposed to.

Have you ever had a sprained wrist? It generally requires you to be in some sort of cast and one can barely hold a pencil in such a cast let alone play NBA basketball. If it wasn't for his age, then he'd likely be out a lot longer.

Yeah, I dunno why anyone would be surprised by this loss. Mavs aren't some great team. They can't win on the road and have trouble with b2bs...which means they are a .500 team. Who honestly thought they'd be better than a .500 team this season?

The season is still long? Who says they can be better than .500?

Trade Deadline is 7th February.

I would not make any predictions before that

Still you are right the Mavs will loose games. Especially B2Bs.

I would not make any predictions before that

Still you are right the Mavs will loose games. Especially B2Bs.
I'm not saying they "can't" be better, but .500 is still lightyears better than last season.

Bulls have beat the Thunder
Hawks beat the Nuggets

We lost one game against a team we were 0-6 against, on a B2B, when a new player entered the rotation, after arriving in Phoenix at 1 am, playing without Barea but by all means, predict a huge losing streak based on this one game instead of accepting all of those facts.

The few take away a you can get from tonight
1) Suns have our number
2) the league is way too fast and strong for Dirk now
3) Kleber and Barea are super important
4) Doncic gonna have some rookie moments
5) smith might be terrible
6) Brunson is impressive
7) Powell is terrible shooting threes and should never do it
8) Mavs were just tired. Unforced TOs, no arc in jumpers, inability to get back
Its fine to lose a game like this if you dont have playoff aspirations. But thats literally the worst excuses if you plan on being a playoff team.

This is a knee jerk overreaction.

Championship teams lose to terrible teams, but you seem to think we can’t lose one game against a terrible team given all the odds stacked against us and be a playoff team? Just stop.

It stings for sure, but every team— even the championship Warriors— loses once in a while to a terrible team.

I thought Doncic was actually getting away with a lot of palming but Crawford really is much worse. Because refs can't/won't enforce rules all of the time, it's impossible to figure out what should be called. This is really true with fouls. They let the Suns hit us in the head 2 consecutive plays but then call some ticky tack foul against them as soon as we cross halfcourt.

I don't get it because they've played exactly 27 games together (less actually due to injury) and their record is still 15-12 in a very strong West. There are way more reasons not to jump to conclusions than there are to think they can't play together.

Mavs shot 5-33 from three land. That will lose every game. There really is nothing more to it. The fact that we even had a chance shooting that badly is amazing.

Y'all, why was Dirk playing last night? He barely looked capable of walking at a brisk pace without limping.

It was his first game. He will be moving better once he gets a few games under his belt.
