Devin Harris still catching fools with the offensive charge.

Sloppy end to the quarter, but victory is all but assured.

I'm confident saying this will be the only 4pt play of Powell's career.

Kemba walker 4-14 and 0-5 on threes contained by DSJ. Once again, DSJ is becoming an elite defensive player. You don't give that up for just anything.

I thought this would be the perfect game to play Dirk more mins. Why doesn't he play in the 2nd half?

4.3ppg the rest of the season sounds achievable but I don't expect him to play every game, particularly on b2b's.

Rick mentioned when Dirk first came back that he might only play in the first half for awhile so it seems they are easing him back. Too bad Maxi is the odd guy out. Hopefully sefant77 is correct that Powell is being showcased for a trade because we will lose Maxi in FA if this keeps up.

Bullets:
  • God the East is gross. That's a .500 playoff team getting crushed by 40 on their home court. They were missing players and all, but still indicative how outdated this conference setup of the NBA is. Get to 2019 with your league system boys and girls...
  • If you don't turn over the ball (and face OKC's defense), you'll probably win games even on the road. Also, let's play the Hornets every night!
  • DSJ was primed for a big performance in front of his family and he delivered. Very under control and effective game. This is what I'd like to see from him more than pure boxscore stats.
  • "Quiet night" Doncic with 18/10/4. You gotta remind yourself regularly that this is almost surreal.
  • We had a convincing blowout win. So why not bitch about random stuff? Kleber makes sense over Matthews in the starting and Powell in the bench unit. Yet he only played garbage time today. This is so hilarious that I'm currently thinking we might simply be showcasing Dwight and Wesley. If Maxi suddenly gets more playing time after the trade deadline, we'll know I guess.
  • If I'm wrong it's very concerning to see Powell hitting two threes, one four point play even. You know he's going to continue to try and brick the next 25 or so.
  • Matthews worked tonight against a bad team. Not very indicative of his potential and I probably won't grow a fan this season. Seven shots is ok though.
  • Lineups: We have been talking about leaving the bench out too long in close games. Tonight, in a blowout, Rick suddenly broke his pattern and left the starters in until three minutes left in the third quarter. Was it closing out the game or knowing that nobody of them would see the floor in the 4th? Anyway: Weird.
  • Harris had a bad stretch recently, but is back at doing Harris stuff.
  • On the contrary, DFS still doesn't look right. Not sure what the issue is, but just like Powell he has fallen considerably off the early season hype.
  • Generally with the bench being so up and down, we have to be more flexible on who to play on a nightly basis. That includes trying Brunson for Barea, Mejri for Powell or Broekhoff for DFS. The latter was inactive, but just saying. I feel we're not fully utilizing our depth.

Doncic only with 26min , so 6min less that's why the stats are a bit more boring. Still good!

I don't know what Rick is thinking keeping Maxi so much on the bench. He made the smart move bringing him into the S5 against the Pelicans. And now he reverse it. Maxi will move on when he is not getting minutes. Thing is Maxi performed well when he was asked to play...

The argument about Maxi's great on/off +/- you can bring will always be that Carlisle picks the right spots for him. But the sample is big enough to think that he's simply a better player/fit over Wesley and Dwight.

It's almost unreal. Powell's advanced metrics look like shit without Maxi and the duo of Kleber/Luka has also been great. I'm not sure what Rick is thinking, but tonight not playing him at least didn't hurt us against a weak opponent.

Unless our main focus is to sign Randle in the off-season, I think re-signing Maxi should be one of our top priorities.

Also, Maxi makes so much more sense than Powell playing with Dirk. Hell, Mejri playing with Dirk makes more sense than Powell. They have to be showcasing Powell for a trade because Rick simply isn't that stupid.

If they were showcasing Powell, why put him out there with Dirk and almost strictly the 2nd unit. IF you are showcasing him, to the detriment of another better player like Maxi, then why not bring him in with DJ who can get box out, get boards and has some defensive post presence, and Luka who can distribute more? Powell and Dirk get killed on the boards and their defense looks poor, obviously he can't score. I think Powell busts his ass in practice and does all the right things and Rick likes that.

I really want to have February and Trade Deadline is over. That would solve a lot of stuff which we don't know. I am quite sure we will see some trade involving the Mavs the next months.

Again I don't want to see Maxi in the S5 because he is Maxi and I like him as a player. I want him there because he helps the team so much more than WES or Powell in the S5. WES and Powell are great for the second unit. WES would bring scoring and defense and Powell would bring the minutes that Dirk still needs to rest every game.

Dirk Nowitzki was cheered by the fans while on the bench - hilarious.

LOL, I don't think I've ever seen a crowd chant for an opposing player like that before... Not un-mockingly, anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me if we see something like that in Boston and Philly as well.
Might become a trend for one of the most respected players to ever play the game.

He got a nice applause when he first entered the game too.

I loved that applause. That really showed what Dirk achieved in his career. In his maybe last season for the Mavs (I bet he plays one more though) he get cheered by everyone.
Really great achievement, never saw that before.

LOL thought the same thing on the first one and then for sure on the second one. His shot just doesn't look good and forced.

Thought it was a really weird pick at the time. Really indefensible.

However, as seen in other posts, I do think he has a place in the league. He simply has no confidence right now in his game and I think Harper may have mentioned it. He is no where close to even the college version of himself and I hope he can find his way.

One of the strangest picks of all time if you consider that the Celtics were throwing picks at them for the chance to move up. They may have been able to get 3 first round picks AND still pick Kaminsky.
