Default Free Wayne Ellington

Guess its time for this thread.

Not because Ellington is such a great talent - because Carter sucks really hard and starts to be a negative part of this team.

Give the kid a run, give him some games as rotation player with 20min and see what he gives the team....

Agreed with everyone here! I don't think Wayne is that great of a player, but he couldn't be worse than Vince has been so far this year.

VC has no right to play 20 minutes in the next game. Gosh, I know Rick favors the veterans, but at some point you gotta let go. Ellington is making 2.5 million to play 8 minutes a game.

Ellington is 6'4". He's undersized for a 2, and just not that good. Our problem is with having a third scorer from the frontcourt. We can't afford to play Ellington if he can't defend front-court positions or rebound

Ellington is much better than what VC has brought this year.

And I'd really love to know what Ellington would do better. I'm sure there are some stats that Ellington is better than Carter at. If not, are we just making a change for the sake of change.

Ellington's career > VC this year.

Well, Ellington is a better three-point shooter and defender than VC. And he won't take 15 shots a game...so there's that.

Well, I guess the thing is you won´t really know untill you try. It might not work out, but Carter has been terrible, so it`s not like we`ll be losing a lot of scoring or defense, ball security or 3 point shooting by giving Ellington more of Carter`s minutes.

And Carlisle is experimenting with lineups all the time, so why not experiment with how the team will play with Carter on the bench, and Ellington on the floor?

On the year, Ellington has been an inferior three point shooter.

And Carter has been asked to be the primary scorer off the bench. I like Ellington taking some threes, but I don't like him creating shots and being the primary scorer when other guys are on the bench. Carter isn't great, but he's a more versatile scorer and can actually create offense on occasion.

The bigger problems are that we lack a leader who can create offense from the bench when Ellis is on the bench (Harris SHOULD help that so we can always have a floor general out there). We also lack guys that can create their own offense (both front and back court). Wright should help to create some of his own offense and reduce the load on the 6th man scorer.

I'm not against benching Carter, but I wonder what the alternative is. Ellington is short, cant rebound and can't guard a forward. Crowder is rough and prone to poor play. There aren't many options.

Once Wright get's back and we have a viable scoring option off the bench (unless he's starting at C), then I think we can try Ellington in place of Carter. Despite how bad Carter's been, I haven't really seen anything to make me feel Ellington would be better. If Larkin can play like he did last night in the 4th and in his debut, I'd love to see some more of him as well with the go ahead to drive to the bucket. When Harris get's back if we've not seen any change in Carter, I'd be more than happy to not see him on the floor the rest of the season...

I'm all for trying to get Ellington going. I like his speed and effort on defense, and his poor shooting to date is almost certainly just a sample size issue. Just needs to develop and demonstrate more comfort with the offensive and defensive systems.

That said, he's a SG - a position where there are only about 10-12 mpg available behind Monta - and Vince gets the majority of his minutes at SF, so for those who are just looking for ways to get Vince off the court, giving Wayne his SG minutes is only a partial solution. Beyond that, there's the question of whether it's really good practice to have three rotation wing players all getting less than 15 minutes of burn per game, which is what would happen with Wayne, VC and Jae splitting time. I think you're unlikely to get the best of any of them playing it that way. Better for the time being I think to let Vince keep his spot in the rotation and hope he can find a groove with that run of back-to-backs in the rear view mirror, albeit with a shorter leash if he continues trying to find his groove to the detriment of the team the way he has been.
