Well, Brunson too.

They drafted him as longterm Barea replacement, looks like it has to happen right now allready

Great game. I'm still shocked Rose passed on the open 3.

Going to miss JJ if it’s as serious at it looks. He brings a calmness to that 2nd unit.

If JJ does have a significant injury I think Luka plays more with the second unit like he has been. That unit needs a great facilitator. Brunson is nice but he's not the dimer that Luka or JJ are. Those starters will jack up whatever anyway, and silly wes and barnes post ups will still be called. That second unit absolutely has to have someone to make their life easier on offense.

If you haven’t already make sure to VOTE FOR LUKA TODAY.

The kid is a beast and plays with such joy. I don’t remember the last time I enjoyed watching basketball this muchz I like the 2011 Mavs and loved kid and Dirk. Always enjoyed watching Nash. But Lukas has just been amazing.

If JJ is done, they should try Dennis off the bench as the primary ball handler. They wonít, but they should.

Also ...DSJ has been a good sport and I know he’s been injured a lot ( not a good thing) but this team just has a better flow out there without him. I just hate when the team plays well and then it all gets disrupted. But we will see what happen.

This is no longer a terrible idea with Barea likely out for good, but I think Brunson will take over Barea's role off the bench.

Brunson should start though if DSJ is still out. No more Wes. That ship better have sailed.

I also like Brunson in the JJB role. This opens up an ideal opportunity for DSJ to come in and play major minutes at the 2 with both 1st and 2nd team whether Luka is running point or Brunson. IMO this is ideal for his development because this is what he needs to become to make it here imo. If not, then he can be traded. My money is on him successfully transitioning. He's already got the D, and his 3 stroke appears to be there. Now it's the mental adjustment to shoot the open 3 first, and finally, better decision making when driving.

When Brunson starts in place of Wes, then Harris will take over JJB's role. If Rick would start DFS for some more defense, then Brunson can fill the JJB role with the 2nd team. I like this flexibility. Oh yeah, Wes plays with 2nd team only as 3 pt shooter. If he doesn't like that, waive him.

I thought as a team they played pretty good, not great. On defense, they allowed Minnesota to score at will down the stretch and you just need stops. JJ being hurt is sad, but hopefully Brunson can step up in that roll.

I liked the starting rotation down the stretch without Matthews.

I think he could be really good in that role. Puts him in his comfort zone, and still letís him develop. It didnít make sense with Barea dominating the ball, but weíve already seen at the end of last season what alpha DSJ can do.

Bullets:
  • Luka is winning us games fellas. It's real. Luka scored or assisted on all Mavs points starting with 5:50 left in the game except the late FTs by Barnes. He was 4-6 for nine points + two assists to Brunson and Barnes (both threes). Last play was for sure lucky, but you have to be cool as ice to hit that shot especially with how wild that sequence was.
  • I rooted hard for Luka's triple double. Too bad it didn't happen, would have made the game extra special. He'll get one eventually, so all is good.
  • Man Maxi. He was -11 for the game and his primary assignment scored 30 points (Towns). But he played him as tough as you can and think forced him to pass the ball up in a crucial possession and then also deflected the last shot by Rose. I don't know what to say any longer. Play that man for 30 minutes.
  • Outside his three and clutch FTs, running the offense through Barnes late once again failed. 0-3 with his isos.
  • Wes didn't play in the fourth at all? HELL FUCKING YEAH. That's how you win basketball games. He got benched for Brunson, who was his usual veteran self as a rookie. Made stuff happen, minimal mistakes.
  • Talking about mistakes: Luka only one turnover on a 29-8-12 line. OK!
  • All prayers to JJB. He'll be out for a while Had a great game as well. Sucks... I guess we'll see more Brunson going forward.
  • I've bitched about Powell quite a lot, but he still can be effective against teams that have no clue how to defend a rim runner. He got dunks from JJB and Doncic all night. Still took a three, I don't get why.
  • Gotta say it: Some Dirk misses weren't even close. Tough game for 41 again.

Mavs are 4-1 when Kleber starts. The one loss was the terrible last play by DJ+DSJ against Pels.

1. Give Maxi credit. He played a good defense against Towns. He made it really hard for hm to score. I think he did well. He also shot the 3 well.
Great to see that Rick learns and let him start.
During the game they showed a statistic where Maxi was 2nd best in the nba in defense rating? Is that true? Huge if.

2. Doncic... wow! These numbers are crazy. I hope everyone at Dallas understand that it is important to build a great team around him.

3. I like the lineup with DJ , Doncic , Brunson, Barnes and Wes. Doncic was good in penetrating the zone and then either scores, pass out for a good 3 ball or gives it to DJ.
Give Luka good shooters around him and a good center like DJ and he will shine every game like this.

4. Really great game of runs and really fun to watch today. One of the best games I saw from the Mavs the last weeks.

Edit: And please don't change the Starting Lineup .. it is great how it is right now.

I know DJ takes plays off on defense and isnít perfect, but you canít say he doesnít get back down the court quickly. Fast break was disrupted because he got back on defense and a play that saved the game.

I'm all about players making big plays to win games, but his defense is getting worse and worse. Both help and man defense is becoming non-existent.

I've been one of his biggest defenders, but I just don't know anymore if it's smart to pay him big money on a multi-year contract. The regression is alarming and real.

Devastated for JJ. Love that guy a lot

Optimistic for the team. Brunson has been incredibly solid and needs more minutes. Our future will be much brighter with Brunson's development.

Itís not smart to pay him big $. Iíd rather go after Vucevic or a rim protector. Unless DAJ can help deliver, through name and friendship, another big FA. Find that to be extremely doubtful though

DAJ isn’t a recruiter

Vujacic is the same player as DAJ (both rebound but can’t defend, Vuj is better with jumpers. Jordan in good days can be better rolling hard)

Jordan isn’t a great re-sign but he’s the most likely to sign with us. Players rarely leave their teams in FA

I don’t mind Jordan back for a couple of years in the teens.

Vucevic is 100x better offensives than DJ...I am not sure the same can be sad about DJ over Vicecic on defense at least not these days. DJ ha snobskills offensivelt nas someone like Vucecic who is having a great year in Orlando with no greatvPGs would thrive with Luka feeding him for easy buckets but would also give us a legitimate option in the post that we havenít had since Dirk.
