Woooweeee that was getting a little stressful there! But Mavs pulled it off without KP! (And WCS obv, which I think could've been good in this game) I honestly didn't think we had much of a chance before tipoff. But shit, we played great! I thought our defense was stellar mostly. Good 3pt shooting by Luka. Not so much on 2s lol. But hey I'll take it. First 5 game winning streak of the season baby!! Go Mavs!!

So indefinitely injured... could be back for next game? Wondering since the injury happened in January, and he's just NOW sitting down for a game because of it. Something sounds off about it.

If its the playoffs tomorrow, he would play.

Since its the last quarter of the RS they want to fix the wrist issue so he is 100% for the playoffs

Something that is starting to piss me off though... Luka is a guy who gets like 8.5 ft's a game all year and suddenly starting in March to now he gets 4.5 a game. Officials seem to be swallowing the whistle on him, not sure if it's his complaining or what but that needs to stop. The amount of contact he draws he should be averaging way more than what he has been the last 5 weeks or so.

It's so funny because when we play other teams and I check their forums their fans are almost always posting about wishing they could trade their coach for ours. Until Luka specifically asks for a new coach I'm fine with Rick because while I don't agree with everything he does we can do a hell of a lot worse than RC.

“Rick Carlisle is one of the best tacticians in the league. If you scroll Twitter after the Dallas Mavericks lose you might get a different impression, but NBA general managers certainly think so. In the last five years, Carlisle was voted twice as the best head coach at making in-game adjustments in the annual NBA GM survey. He was ranked in the top three in each of those five seasons.”

Yeah, its mind blowing. Also the "fire him" but they cant tell who should actually replace him, making the Mavs better...

I really think, if the Mavs would be so stupid to fire him, Carlisles agent would have at least 15 to 20 NBA teams on the phone, trying to sign so they can immediately fire their current coach

Very nice win. Having said that, I still think RC is a good coach, but he's overrated.

What about the dozen + losses due to blown 4th quarter meltdowns the last 2 years, lack of minutes for young players to develop, midget-ball jacking 3's, matching up against other smaller lineups instead of forcing other teams to match up with our size?

This is one win. There's plenty of basketball left to play before we see what we've ultimately got.

Again, very nice win! Go Mavs!

Best game I've ever seen DFS play

He has come such a long way and is a tireless worker which is why after KP he's one of my favorite guys.

I agree. DFS was exceptional. One of the keys for the Mavs though is, like THJ, can he do this consistently or is this just an outlier? History says that this is an outlier. Come playoff time, consistent performance wins series, not 2 great games, 2 average with a couple sub-par, and this is the reality of THJ and DFS until they prove differently. I'm still a fan, but I'm also a realist.

This was such a solid game that it is frustrating because there are glimpses of what can happen. I just wish we could bottle it and perform like this consistently. Melli didn't have his best night, but I am encouraged by his play. He definitely elevates the Mavs BBiq when he's on the floor, so as long as he plays smart, the elimination of mistakes and poor plays can be just as impactful as really good plays. They just don't show up as well on a stat sheet.

Mavs get a good win means fans get to dump on anyone criticizing the coach. And when they have a loss, fans will dump on the pro RC fans. Rinse. Repeat.

One win doesnít detract from the valid criticisms fans have had over the years.

One loss doesnít mean throw the coach out of the gym.

I dont see valid criticism, i just see hot takes.

You dont need to fire a coach who is overachieving every single year compared to talent level

I honestly didn't realize that Melli and Kleber didn't even score today

But they some little things like boxing out that went a long ways towards stopping Gobert dominate us for once

That's what I mean by the elimination of bad plays and mistakes. They don't show up like postive stats on a stat sheet, but make no mistake, the elimination of bad plays can be just as impactful with the added bonus of disrupting an opposing player, so he has a more difficult time finding his rhythm and getting into the flow.

Agree 100%. That's really all that matters now, and with the way the Mavs are constructed and how much they need KP, the whole team's fortunes ride on him and his health come playoff time imo.

This is both a very scary but potentially exciting thing, and I think it's the number one reason why the Mavs have decided to manage him the way they have regardless of the potential impact on seeding. It's a roll of the die. I think the Mav had rather take their best shot with a healthy KP even as a 7 or 8 seed than potentially risk his availability even if it means a 5 or 6 seed.

Whether or not the Mavs are making the right decision will only been known in hindsight, but they have chosen this route, and with they way KP has been rounding back into playing shape, I don't really have any issues with it. Let's face it. If the Mavs are going to make some noise in the playoffs, they are going to have to beat one of the top 2 or 3 seeds, so does it really matter if it's the 1st or 2nd round? Only if they lose in the first.

Exactly.

You can critique the front office for assembling a sub-par roster or you can criticize Rick for not using the talent he has, but you can't do both.

With Luka, a couple of starters, and a bunch of second/third/fourth tier guys, he has us 7 games above .500.

To make the argument that the roster is somehow vastly superior and Rick is holding them back? Well, I've watched a LOT of Mavs games and that's just not this team. KP is always injured. The rest of the guys seem barely mediocre and yet as a team we're actually pretty good.

Yes and no. Don't underestimate the impact of having a generational talent like Luka on the team. Sometimes the best thing RC can do is just get out of the way. Just ask Kidd.

Beat me to it. I also came to sarcastically say that we need to fire Rick.

What a garbage game man. This team stinks and Rick should hand the team over to Moseley.

Luka was great with not turning the ball over.

Dodo needs to score more or gfto. Hell if we didn't have Maxi and Melli with all the offensive firepower we would have lost bad.

Mitchel obviously killed us, but he's just so good thst no team could ever hope to contain him.

Our team defense is trash lately and we might as well just go all out on offense.

Brunson can't do anything right and it's pathetic to watch.

I'm done with this team. Shark tank Cuban should sell it to Jerry Jones because that's the only way this city is ever going to see true success.

KP was dominant

Go Mamwicks

Mavs crazy streak continues

20-0 if they lead after the 1st QTR

8-21 if they lose the 1st qtr

I don't get what happened to Melli's shot. He wasn't a sharpshooter in Europe either, but a very consistent plus shooter in the last 6-7 years with seasons way above 40+%, albeit on small samples. If he can put that together, he could be a serious contributor even in the playoffs, because otherwise he is a very good PF/small ball center from a defensive and rebounding standpoint, and just generally being in the right place at the right time.

Anyone gonna bet on that?

I haven't made much of his shooting because his defense has been unexpectedly good.

And I like him in the rotation at PF especially when WCS comes back because it stops RC from going full fledged midget ball off the bench that's when the Mavs always struggle defensively once Luka sits and everyone on the court is 6'5 and shorter with Powell at center.

Mellie playing well forces Rick to continue to play two bigs even when KP and Kleber both sits

The amount of contact he draws he should be averaging way more than what he has been the last 5 weeks or so.
Had this debate with someone a few months ago that it wouldn't surprise me if the refs started pulling that crap because they will only tolerate it so much.

Now are the whistles down because of Luka's outburst at times I don't know but you can clearly see he's not getting to the ft line as often anymore

If you can pull a guy down by his jersey to get the block and it isn't a foul, I don't know what is.
