Can't wait for the season to start and see what Doncic can do...the suspense is absolutely killing me.

I hope that Brunson truly is the steal of the draft. I hope that I am also wrong about Doncic being NBA ready. I hope he blows us all away, but I won't go in expecting that as this is a league with a new set of rules for him. He's played against other very talented players, but now he's going against the world's most elite athletes.

So, basically the same as every rookie?

Underdog, I feel his competition is better than the competition that other rookies have faced, but it's not the world's most elite athletes. So the answer is no. Not basically the same as every rookie.

He should be more NBA ready than any other rookie. No rookies this coming season had larger roles and were the leaders on their respective teams in bigger games than this kid....Brunson might be the only one who even comes close.
I don't think people are expecting him to start his career like Magic did but I do think he will make some type of impact very early on. He is in a very good situation on a semi-rebuilding team with moderate to low expectations, a great coach, very good veteran mentors and role models, skills that are conducive to Rick's system, and will most likely be given the keys to drive and lead this thing from the get-go.

You have to factor in that Luka dominated in a style of game that is not even tailored to his strengths, often against defensive game plans that he will never see in the NBA (full court press and doubles). Yes, in the NBA he will be facing better athletes, but he will do that on a wider court, with better teammates, with a game plan that will complement his game better, and in an era which is actually tailor-made for his general skills, ability, and even mentality. He will be a borderline all-star from day one, and I'm shocked that some of you guys worry about him being able to translate his game. It's a non-issue.

Because the backlash if he isn't what you're saying he will be will be huge...especially after giving up a first round pick next season.
I'm all about being optimistic about a high pick, but I feel that building up super high expectations perhaps isn't the way to go. Borderline all-star from day one? That's a high task in a tough conference.
Winning is all that matters anyway. If the Mavs don't win next season, then it really won't matter much what type of stats Luka puts up.

I love that someone is willing to roll the dice like this, and it would be great. Right out of the box borderline all star is exactly what this franchise and us fans deserve.
I will play devils advocate a bit out of boredom:
Yes, he will be going against better athletes and he will do it with better teammates, but his teammates are not better than the competition overall. So it's not like he is coming to a legit contender where he will have so much firepower and play making around him that he can't still struggle.
He's also still a teenager. He will not only have to prove his elite BBIQ to get anywhere near all star level but he will have to do it from game 1 and with little to no lapses in a short time between End of October to Mid FEB. To do that on a brand new team with new additions is going to be incredibly tough.
We still have SLU, rotation, position, minutes concerns that most of us would be shocked if it were all ironed out at game 1. If we rolled our first lineup and rotation and it remained that way with little experimentation and we were above or right at .500% it would damn near be a miracle.
I think Doncic will be successful and I expect him to be quite a bit better than Dirk right out of the box. But I would be happy to see him as a starter in the Rookie challenge game.

Mavs are going to be fun to watch because of Smith's athleticism and Luka's passing
However, we need to accept two things
1) We're probably going to be between .300 and .400
2) Our pick will most likely be 6-12 and will go to the Hawks.
Both of those things will be painful in the short term.

The most important thing for Mavs' fans to be hopeful for this season is the development and progression of our youth throughout the season. We have virtually no reason to tank so the team will hopefully improve as the season progresses with our youth as the main catalysts.
That is what I'll be hoping for considering how our team is constructed.

Still bored?
Dude, I hope he'll be a clear rookie of the year winner and takes us past the first round of the playoffs. We have some exciting talent now with Jordan starting at center and Dončić being drafted. A year under DSJ's belt should help too as well as continued growth in Barnes' game. I can hardly wait.

Doncic both looks more muscular than the average college kid and more heavy/thick

I like how much work he's putting in this offseason. I'm not suggesting that other rookies are not, but he looks like he is ready to play like an NBA starter.

Dirk: "He's a legit 6'9". I stood next to him."
Hell yeah! I never would have guessed that he was that tall.

Dude was legit 6'8" by European measures (without shoes) when he was 18. As a kid who is still growing, it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm sure he will play some PF. It's going to be a big bonus to be able to move him into 4 positions on the floor offensively. Drag the least mobile player up top and work him in an iso. IF they scramble to switch then he can hopefully kill them with the pass. If he doesn't skip a beat in the transition to the league, he is going to cause issue.

Looks like coach has joined the hype train as well...
"Off of what I've seen over the last two days," Carlisle said last week, "anybody who doesn't jump on season tickets now is going to sorely regret it later, that's all I'll say."

I will say though it's very rare for Rick to complement a rookie like that even with the shameless promoting of ticket sales.

ACB is nr.3 and it's really not close. Real would win the college season beating teams by 25-30 on average. They would probably beat average teams by 40 and bad teams by 50-60 points. I don't think I'm exaggerating here.

McMahon says Doncic has been the best player on the floor during pickup games at the Mavs facility... Not just against our guys, but also against Dallas local products like LaMarcus Aldridge. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/ba...ason-workouts/

My sports wood for Doncic couldn't be any bigger than it already was. But I love all the quotes coming out about him from Dirk, RC, and Mcmahon. The downside is it feels even longer waiting on preseason in the meantime.
