We're not even absolutely sure it's true. So I guess I'd like to know some heartwarming details if it's no big deal.
So whats the difference if its a scratch, broken bone or tendon if we plan to sign the guy to five year contract and the next season starts in four months?

Kristaps Porzingis is back in Dallas, hand is OK, Mavericks satisfied that bar fight a 'case of being in wrong place, wrong time'

I honestly never believed the TMZ report in the first place. Being mad some guy was traded from a team you're a fan of is an incredibly stupid and unlikely reason for someone to get into a bloody bar fight. Not everything is about basketball.

The fact that Porzingis was apparently yelling at them about "sending them back to Russia" made it much more likely to me that they were fighting over something related to nationalism, especially considering the history between Latvia and the USSR/Russia.

To nobody's surprise...

@ShamsCharania: Restricted free agent Kristaps Porzingis and the Dallas Mavericks will meet when free agency opens on June 30 and the franchise plans to offer Porzingis a full five-year, $158 million maximum contract, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA

As far as I'm concerned that contract was started the second we made the trade for him.

I agree, this is a high risk, high reward move and if KP is not healthy we are totally screwed.

Agreed. The real question is if he will adjust his game to avoid the high flying put back dunks.

KP could easily stick to PnRs, ISOs, & 3 point shots and run 22 ppg. We don't need the flashy stuff from a 7 ft 3 guy who has not shown to be durable.

Oh ok then. Dallas is going to be something else next season.

Couldn't they extend Porzingis now since we own his Bird Rights?

Can but donít want to and also Bird Rights mean nothing when under the cap

Bird rights mean we can sign him for up to the max AFTER hitting the cap

We sign him now and he just eats up all our cap

Love the inclusion of small stuff such as drawing off-ball fouls, battling for position, etc. not just stats...

I did notice he was pretty clumsy and borderline awkward when jumping and landing on alley oops. I recall an interview saying they were working on overall leg strength and ancillary movements, so I trust our staff to make him a little more rounded physically and protect those knees and ankles.

I've also underrated his defense myself. We all knew he was ultra long and a shot blocker, but his mobility and sheer length will allow him to defend off the pick and roll. He will ultimately provide a rim presence we haven't had. Not to mention affecting passing lanes.

The face to basket and back to basket game is strong. And then he'll be out 27 feet or so and drill it in your face. I am excite. Also to note, Ntilikina and THJ play very well with and off KP.

Here's my go-to for showing the people how good he was prior to the injury: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOM6aBAmc84

At least Porzingis is going to be a Mav. I just wish players would not be nervous about his health and roll the dice to join him and Luka.

New statistical analysis by 538 shows that KP is one of the best defenders in the league:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...-defense/#fn-1

P.S. It also shows Maxi, DFS, and Delon are up there

Kind of a small sample but Seth Curry rates really well, too. Brunson, not so much.

@ShamsCharania: Sources: Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis‘ five-year, $158M maximum contract gives him a player option in the final season in 2023.

@NickVanExit: The more I watch Porzingis with these guards he had to play with the more I think he might average 30 points per game next year with Luka.

@NickVanExit: Like.... Luka Doncic is about to play with a 7'3 center that is a better shooter than him.

@bobbykaralla: Roughly 28 percent of KP's career FGA have been 3-pointers. I would not be surprised if that number is above 40 this season. He's a career 36 percent 3P shooter and hit 39.5 percent his last season with NYK. Upping the volume while maintaining that efficiency would be very good.

@bobbykaralla: Porzingis shot 39.5% from 3 during his last season in New York. 95 percent of his 3PA came from above the break. Last season, Dallas took the third-most ATB 3s and finished 28th in making them, at 33.3%. That will help a lot!

Dirk is perfectly fine! He just blocks out for other rebounders when he can and is out shooting twos and threes so he can't get offensive boards.

Wait, you're talking about KP?

KP is gonna put strain on the Mavs defense, so they'll need MOBILE perimeter defenders, right?

That's what I read somewhere on the internet.

I was being sarcastic. Sorry the tone didn't come through.

I was tired of people complaining about Dirk being sub-par on offensive glass, rebounding in general, and defense.

KP is going to be fine, particularly with a strong supporting cast 1-3 rebounding it and defending.
