100% agree. That's why I was hoping so bad that the Mavs would just use their draft picks themselves and not try to trade for a second tier kinda-sorta "star" that gets paid like a superstar.

Hayward's new contract is like Horford last offseason. Amazing how teams never learn in this league.

But if it's the Knicks, then no surprise there.

According to someone who spoke with HoopsHype on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, Stanford’s Tyrell Terry “broke a record” for a basketball IQ test administered by several NBA front offices this offseason.

Terry’s feel for the game will be a perfect fit alongside Luka Doncic, whose court vision makes him a generational talent. As defenders collapse to guard Doncic on drives to the paint, Terry will often be open on the perimeter. Last season, per Synergy, the Stanford guard was 30-for-60 (50.0 percent) on unguarded catch-and-shoot attempts from beyond the arc.

While the biggest concern for Terry was his frame, he is clearly still growing as the one-and-done prospect reportedly added “15 pounds of muscle” during the offseason.

Put it all together and a statistical projection model from Jesse Fischer of ToTheMean.com included Terry as one of just eleven prospects in this class who had the likelihood of becoming a star at 1 percent or higher.

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor listed Terry at No. 8 overall on his big board. USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s Rookie Wire was not far behind, putting Terry at No. 12 overall on the final update before the draft.

This means that in the second round, the Mavericks were able to obtain a player who some saw as a lottery talent. His pairing alongside Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis will only increase his likelihood of success.

I love these 15lbs of muscle comments. Look, its barely achievable with steroids much less doing it clean. I'm sure he gained weight and muscle but 15 lbs of muscle.it would be a remarkable physical difference.

I think Terry will end up having the best career of the 3 we drafted last night.

It took me 4 months that to gain 15lbs of muscle and I was on +600mg Testosterone cycle, eating clean, maximum protein and working out 2 hours a day 6 days a week. That's minimum cardio too. These kids run a lot...that doesn't help bulking up. If he gained 15lbs of muscle I feel like it wasn't clean.

My least favorite player on the team. Never bought in. Never sacrificed for the team. Had grandiose ambitions hampered by his own average play. Don't let the door hit ya.

Wright gone, but I think Jackson is part of the Mavs gaming squad so even if he is out, they seem to have good terms. I think he prefers gaming anyway.

Terry was 19 at the time and likely never worked out HARD in his life. That's the same situation my son was in (but my son was 17). Terry JUST turned 20

The weight training began in April and he didn't see results right away. But when the draft was delayed he kept working. So it was 7 total months and full time for 3 months

“I knew I needed to add strength and weight, and I didn’t really see results right away, which was a little bit discouraging,” Terry says. “But we didn’t know this was going to last six months. So we put in a program, between weightlifting, on-court, nutrition, and also mental health, meditation. When it was announced that we’d have more time, I just stuck with the routine I was in. That extra time has really allowed me to see more results.”

"Terry took sporadic trips home to Minneapolis over the summer, but has been training full-time in Indianapolis since August."

From an interview for the Athletic

>>>What, in your view, changed that you started coming off the bench?

I don’t know, it’s a coach’s decision. Whatever he saw, he wanted me to come off the bench. So … kinda can’t fight it.

>>>Carlisle has said you feel more comfortable coming off the bench. Would you agree with that?

No, I wouldn’t say that. It was the first game of the year, so, I don’t know. Know what I mean? It was the first game of the year, we won, the next game he decided that.

>>>You told me earlier this year your routine changes when you’re in warmups, when you’re a starter vs. when you’re a backup. What were you saying about that?

Yeah, I just feel like when you’re a starter, you know you’re going to go right into the game. Off the bench, you have a couple minutes to feel out the game, see how it’s going, stuff like that.

>>>It’s just like a little bit more focus, a little bit more zoned in during warmups?

I would say so, yeah. You got to already be locked in. Knowing that in five minutes the shots you’re taking in the pregame (warmups) are going to be the shots you’re probably getting, it could be the first possession of the game.

>>>OK, yeah, so let me repeat that last question. When you went to Memphis, it was way different. Dallas and Toronto has some similarities in your role on each team, in your minutes. Memphis was much different. It was a team that wasn’t winning, you were starting, you were a big part of the offense every night. What did you like it compared to this role now, and is there one that you prefer?

Oh, yeah, I definitely prefer that role (Memphis). Just knowing that I’m going to be the ball handler and controlling everything, that was pretty much what I expect out of my career, to be in that kind of role. But we weren’t winning, a lot of people were hurt. I was really able to have more of a load. But here, we’re winning now, we have good players. We have Luka. He’s the primary ball handler, he’s the leading (All-Star) vote getter, so you really can’t complain too much. We’re a winning team, we’re in a winning situation.

Wow, thanks for posting this. I missed it.

My dude is a little too honest for his own good, I think.

Bye.

Being a second fiddle is harder than being a first fiddle or third fiddle.

Second fiddle you gotta know how to run an offense as primary, but you also have to be smart enough to play secondary and also off ball.

I’m not sure if Wright ever got it

That, and he was a mess in our defense

Yeah, and if was able to comprehend the correlation between his increased role in Memphis and losing that he, himself, illustrated in that interview, it certainly didn't show by the language he chose. He comes off like "I sure do miss the days of getting to be the ball-handler because my team sucked."

That Memphis stint really got to Delon’s head. Putting up triple doubles on a sh*t team doesn’t mean you’re good. The same way getting good grades in community college doesn’t mean you’re smart.

Why are y'all bashing Wright?

He didn't force the mavs to sign him.

He was probably frustrated just like guys get frustrated because they want to play.

It's not like he was a bad locker room guy.

Then we guys saying he sucks then shouldn't that be on the mavs front office they scouted him right?

Not every guy who plays for the Mavs is going to like their role or the way the rotations are handled.

Hell even Shawn Marion was upset at one time with his minutes here.

He said he hated being treated like a rag doll

Did any of you bash him at that time?

Wright for Thaddeus Young works according to Trade Machine

We trade a player that doesn't fit for us for one that doesn't fit for them

We could include Jackson in the trade without affecting the deal too

I don't totally disagree with you mainly because I still am upset with the Mavs epic failure of last off season. However it's not like Delon has done himself any favors with his play. And iirc when the NBA was on lockdown for however many weeks Delon was quoted as saying - "I haven't even touched a basketball in weeks" I'm sure someone can find the full quote but it sure didn't sit well for me that the guy who was supposed to be the final piece to our starting rotation, who had massively underperformed, couldn't even be bothered to put up some shots at home during the lockdown.

You’re not wrong. My problem with Wright is he was consistently pouty (from what I saw in person) about his PT despite the fact that he didn’t perform great when out on the floor. Brunson, Powell and Curry also played inconsistently game to game but were always cheering on their teammates and bought in to their roles. Wright never did. We were an overachieving team but instead of being happy about winning he was bitching about minutes through his brother. Him deleting the Mavs off IG is yet another example of his immaturity. Good riddance.

One thing I will say is that I would like to see Carlisle use a more consistent rotation. I understand Carlisle likes to exploit what he sees as good matchups for the Mavs, but I understand that can be frustrating for players.

That would be amazing, Thad could really help here. More defense. Only thing is, new coach in Donovan may see things differently.
