Default 2020-2021 NBA Season

Season to apparently start on December 22. Wow. Can't believe they are seriously considering starting so soon.

If that start date holds, it probably means we're a little over a month away from training camp. Seems awfully quick.

They say the excuse is not bothering to wait on bringing fans into arenas since most jurisdictions still don't allow large gatherings. However, they still want to play outside of the bubble in their own markets? Mmmk.

Whoa, this is a real shocker. Every NBA analyst I had heard before today was saying that they were pushing for Martin Luther King Day at the earliest. Most were saying that March was much more realistic.

That is not going to happen without another bubble.

You can see it in german soccer right now. Germany has record numbers but its still "just" 10-11k/day for a 84m population. And games are getting canceled left and right in the upper three leagues because players are getting covid and often entire teams enter quarantine.

I don't want to derail the thread, but it's all a circus show with regards to "containment." You can see how it spreads from area to area no matter what lockdowns countries are doing. It's just too contagious.

I think it "can" work if arenas have proper lockdowns, and I don't think the players will do another bubble.

But it's all really a circus show until a vaccine.

No way can you do a bubble for the regular season. No way. They barely managed it for the 8 games+playoffs, with fewer teams. The baseball-style team series might help, but this is still going to be chaos, and I guarantee we're going to see games get postponed or cancelled due to players testing positive.

Seems incredibly irresponsible not to at least take another month or two to try plan this thing out as carefully as you can, but I guess they really need that Christmas Day money.

And it's irresponsible to the players and their mental and physical health. Trying to rush another season just makes no sense other than the stupid olympics which I have no idea how they'll pull that off.

Still hard to believe they would do this, but Coop pointed out that a shorter schedule with be brutal with 24 back to backs versus 14 with December start.

The players are already going to make like half of their money as it is. I never doubted for a second that the 72 game schedule would win out over the 50 game schedule. Most of these guys have had MORE time off than normal. It definitely sucks for the four conference finalists, though.

I'd prefer a Christmas start - most teams played very few games in the bubble. Only 8 teams played more than 15 games

15 games

The Clippers played 21, Raptors 19, Bucks 18, & Rockets 20

Boston played 25 & Denver 27

Both the Heat & the Lakers played 29 games

I think they'll be fine

Hard to believe until you realize that by starting in Dec, they can make 900mill
