Default T. Hardaway Jr should get some love for his defense

Of our best defensive lineups with at least 25 minutes played together and with a Defensive Rating of 100 and under, THJ is on all but one

BEST DEFENSIVE LINEUPS [minutes played together and Defensive Rating]
>T. Hardaway Jr., D. Powell, K. Porzingis, D. Finney-Smith, J. Brunson 70 89.7
T. Hardaway Jr., D. Wright, D. Finney-Smith, M. Kleber, L. Doncic 29 93.3
>T. Hardaway Jr., D. Powell, D. Finney-Smith, M. Kleber, L. Doncic 97 93.5
T. Hardaway Jr., K. Porzingis, D. Finney-Smith, M. Kleber, J. Brunson 82 94
T. Hardaway Jr., S. Curry, K. Porzingis, D. Wright, D. Finney-Smith 25 94.3
T. Hardaway Jr., S. Curry, K. Porzingis, M. Kleber, L. Doncic 50 96.4
T. Hardaway Jr., K. Porzingis, D. Wright, J. Jackson, J. Brunson 29 96.8
T. Hardaway Jr., W. Cauley-Stein, D. Finney-Smith, M. Kleber, J. Brunson 25 97.9
S. Curry, D. Wright, J. Jackson, M. Kleber, J. Brunson 49 100

Another interesting tidbit

The only top defensive lineup that features both Luka and KP does have Maxi but also CURRY?!?

Curry is just not a good defender. Do these stats account for teams just missing shots? There aren't any numbers that could convince me that he is worthy of any defensive mentions.

Yep those stats are misleading because DFS is usually defending the opposition best perimeter players from PGs to SFs

The mavs try hide THJ and Curry defensively or lesser players

There's no way in hell I'm trusting THJ to defend K.Leonard, C.J. McCollum, D.Mitchell, B.Hield or SG Alexander for example

He does give effort defensively but he's just like pretty much all of our other wing players very limited defensively and struggle to keep people in front of them

If DFS goes down for an extended period of time in the playoffs we are screwed

I'd probably rank DW and C.Lee both ahead of THJ in terms of defensive awareness

And for those posters that thought Powells' influence was overrated - 2 of the 3 best defensive lineups had Powell in them and they were both for extended minutes [70 & 97 minutes]

I agree that THJ's defense has been a pleasant surprise. He's nowhere near "stopper" level, I don't think, but he IS worthy of being called a two-way player, and for the Mavericks, that's important, obviously.
