That LaVine contract is yucky. Bulls should’ve let him walk

@wojespn: Sources: Charlotte, Chicago and Orlando finalizing trade that includes Mozgov to Magic, Biyombo to Charlotte and Julyan Stone to Bulls.

@wojespn: Deal includes Bulls guard Jerian Grant to Magic, sources tell ESPN.

@ZachLowe_NBA: Biyombo makes $1M more than Mozgov + CHA is close enough to the tax that it matters. So CHI might be in this trade to take Stone's $1.66M (non-guaranteed) from CHA into cap space. Presumably they will get something for this/sending Grant to ORL Still working out details though.

@ShamsCharania: Sources: Devin Booker has signed a 5-year, $158M maximum contract extension with the Phoenix Suns.

Spurs not matching Kyle Anderson's offer sheet, looks like he'll be the new starting SF for the Grizz.

Morey trying to lowball Capela with 13.5m a year and he isnt happy. Well done, Morey.

Capela isnt Noel, he gets easy 4/70 or 4/80 next summer without injury.

Not Parsons??!?

But seriously, we need more playoff teams to fall out. I'm happy the Spurs are self-immolating.

On the other hand, the Grizz look more likely to make the playoffs.

@LakersSBN: Brook Lopez will be a Milwaukee Buck, leaving the Lakers with JaVale McGee as their starting center. https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/...ucks-la-lakers

Because of Slomo?

Nah...they need JJJ to have a ROY season to be near 0.500

SloMo, JJJ, and a healthy Conley will definitely improve their chances -- Mavs could find some stiff competition for the 8th seed.

I'll tell you one team who may not make the playoffs is the Lakers... That's shaping up to be the worst squad LeBron has ever played for.

healthy Conley...his last five seasons: 73 70 56 68 12

Gasol is 33 and a big slow footed center.

I still see them being out of the PO

@KellyIkoNBA: I’m told Clint Capela felt undervalued during initial negotiations with Houston—he’s reportedly seeking more than the 4/80m given to Zach Lavine, and was offered a contract in the range of the 4/48m given to Nurkic.

@wojespn: Free agent forward Luc Mbah A Moute has agreed to a one-year deal with the Clippers, league source tells ESPN.

@wojespn: Rockets lose two forwards now — including Ariza — from NBA’s best regular season team. Houston is detemined to sign Carmelo Anthony once he becomes free in OKC, sources tell ESPN.

I still think there will be an opportunity to trade DJ to Houston for Capela at the deadline.

I would take on Ryan Anderson's contract if it meant we got Capela's RFA Bird rights.

Either he takes the QO and will be a UFA, or he extends long term with the Rockets. IMO we should be very careful how we approach the situation with DeAndre also expiring.

Seems strange to lose 21mill in cap space just to get Bird Rights when we already are going to have 60-64mill in cap space next season. Don't really need bird rights on a UFA if our salaries are that low unless we are looking to make a huge splash and go over the cap significantly.

Then again, Ryan Anderson would be perfect at the 4 next to Smith, Doncic, Matthews, and Jordan. We absolutely need a guy to help spread the floor.

But man, 20mill this year and 21 mill the next for a guy who just shoots. Ouch.

With his Bird Rights wouldnt the Mavs still be able to include an extra year at max money? Or did that rule change? I honestly dont know. If that rule is the same then whoever has his Bird Rights has an advance by being able to offer him more than any other team.

Jonathan Feigen: Rockets offer to Clint Capela on July 1 was five years, $85 million, two individuals with knowledge of the offer said. With incentives, the deal could be worth $90 million. Rockets remain optimistic sides a deal will be reached. “Absolutely,” one of the individuals said

I call bullshit... $17m per year just doesnt sound like enough to keep Capela dude should be near-max, not Wes Matthews money. Lots of teams willing to pony-up next summer.

Sorry. I'm happy he refused that contract because it gives us hope for next year, but honestly seems dumb to turn down 5/85 and take 4.7mill for a year. I really wonder how often it works out for the player, particularly when he's only looking for an extra 15 mill (reports of wanting 200mill total and). Dude is already 2nd in PER and 5th in rebound rate among centers. His stock can't really climb, but he can see diminished numbers or an injury between signing the QO and becoming a UFA next year.

Dude loses 11mill this year to try to fight for an extra 3 mill a year? I'd still wager he gets a contract from the Rockets. Either Capela accepts the Rockets offer or Morey increases his offer to 5/200. Clint would be stupid to lose 11mill to fight for the extra 15 and Morey would be dumb to let him get away like that.

Is there a deadline associated with a qualifying offer?

Dude is already 2nd in PER and 5th in rebound rate among centers. His stock can't really climb, but he can see diminished numbers or an injury between signing the QO and becoming a UFA next year.

Dude loses 11mill this year to try to fight for an extra 3 mill a year? I'd still wager he gets a contract from the Rockets. Either Capela accepts the Rockets offer or Morey increases his offer to 5/200. Clint would be stupid to lose 11mill to fight for the extra 15 and Morey would be dumb to let him get away like that.
Doesn't seem very smart on his part, but I feel that way about a lot of NBA players. If it wasn't for basketball we would have the worlds tallest trash men.

I think EL was making a pretty good point with who really deserves a max contract. We've heard rumors of teams offering Capela a max contract, but we heard that Noel was going to get big offers as well last summer. They obviously aren't the same player, but I'm not really sure Capela gets what people think even if he wasn't restricted.

Thing is that the Rockets can't piss him off because they won't have cap space next offseason to sign anyone else of equal value if a another team comes in with a hot offer.

I think the difference is(aside from Noel being brain dead), soooo many teams will have the ability to have space for a max offer next off season.

Ehh, I disagree with this.

Don't know if he's looking for $100 million total, but I do know what the numbers say. The Rockets are offering $85 million in total, but his max with another team with max raises is just under $141 million in total. That's $56 million in upwards negotiating space.

You're right his stock is probably where it'll be next offseason (although it's important to note that he's made huge strides each summer in the NBA), but his circumstances will be vastly different. One, teams won't be deterred by his status as a restricted free agent. Two, there're tons of teams with cap space who will be aggressively pursuing him.

Capela is risking that $12.3 million for the chance to reenter a stronger market without a restricted label. It's a gamble, but it's also clearly the correct choice. To compare this situation to Noel's is lazy. Capela is a proven commodity with high upside and strong work ethic who fits the modern NBA perfectly.

Morey just threw 4/160 at a 33y old always injuried guard, who is the 2nd most important player. Why the 3rd most important young player shouldnt demand at least half of it?

Morey cant afford to lose Capela. Now or next year. Their payroll is full, they wont be able to replace him (no, Jordan is not going to sign there for the MLE).

So yeah, Morey ffully committed to win now with the Paul contract and he overpaid him badly. Time to overpay Capela too.

Capela knows it, his agent and Morey too. Morey loves to play tough guy and try to get the best deals but after the Paul contract, he lost all leverage. If Capela walks now or next summer, the Rockets title window is toast.

I agree this will likely be resolved this summer with Capela getting 20m+
They figure out tax stuff later.

Either way I love seeing Morey squirm. No one is taking Ryan Anderson. Their only option may to dump Eric Gordon for a smaller contract to a team like the Pacers. And then bye bye title hopes.

@ShamsCharania: Sources: The Chicago Bulls have rescinded the qualifying offer on guard David Nwaba, making him an unrestricted free agent.
