Pretty close so far. Doncic wanted to make some exciting plays that didn't work out. Otherwise it wouldn't be nearly as close.

I like Maxi in that starting lineup.
Looks a little more defensive than offensive oriented.

A lot of our offensive firepower could come from the bench this season (Brunson/Seth/THJ/Barea/Broek/Powell/Boban)

Powell 100% will replace Kleber. I anticipate:

Powell

Jackson
Wright
Doncic

I think THJ makes too much sense as a scoring punch in the second unit, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him push 30 MPG even as a reserve (a la JET)... Really, outside of Luka & LP, I can see Rick experimenting with all sorts of combinations to open & close games.

THJ does make sense from the bench like JET but I wonder if they are wanting to see if he is a true 3rd option in a starting role (a la Fin). I'm wondering if they are hoping Seth fills the JET role. Could be either way.

I do agree Rick will experiment to find good chemistry in all portions of a game.
The talent level drops significantly from KP/Luka to the next guy but there are several players at that next level in supporting roles so Rick will have a variety of options.

Agree that will be the starting lineup but I personally would prefer to see Maxi, or at least see them experiment with the idea.

Well something that people often overlook is that Rick is still a defensive coach at heart. He even said the team would do more defensive stuff this training camp than offensive stuff which is the norm for his camps.

Luka/Wright/Jackson/KP/Maxi is very balanced and even leans more defensive. Lacks some shooting but that will easily be made up by the bench.

Kidd/Stevenson/Marion/Chandler....doesn’t get any better defensively than that for a SL.

Still think its Powell for sure over Maxi. Powell is the much better rim roller (aka Chandler) and i think Rick likes to sub Kleber in for KP to replace him at the shot blocker...i think Boban wont see many minutes.

I'd love to give Kleber a shot, but both guys definitely showed a lot after the all-star break.

Powell's defense ticked up (but still wasn't great) and his rebounding was actually really impressive after coming out of Jordan's shadow. Powell was actually a dominant offensive threat that punished teams who cheated out with oops. He also shot 40% from three after the break.

Kleber was absolutely dominant defensively early (and our best DEFRTG guy other than Mejri), but took a big dip as the season moved on. He earned more minutes, but as he got more minutes, his production actually declined mid-season. He's a hard guy to read so I'm happy to see him get big minutes.

Maxi Kleber
8pts, 6reb, 45.5% FG, 40% 3pt post all-star break
20.9rebound rating

Dwight Powell
15pts, 8reb, 62% FG, 40% 3pt post all-star break
24.5rebound rating

Hard to determine quality of play when the team was tanking with mostly garbage games. That goes for Powell, Jackson, and Wright especially. Those guys have a lot to prove this season in terms of being consistent and contributing rotation players.

I feel that Kleber's game is more honest in his limitations. He is an energy defensive guy that can hit the occasional three.

I'm all about Powell starting as long as it IS that Powell post all star break.

Real hard to imagine Powell not starting. I can't see it, he will have to play terribly to be replaced.

THJ has a lot to prove and I hope he does but I won't hold my breath. Until proven otherwise I'm more comfortable with Curry getting way more minutes.

THJ's issue is that he was the exact same player on the Mavs as he was on the Knicks post all star break. Can he find that niche and be that third scorer the team needs? I feel like Seth might overtake him in that endeavor. Hardaway should have flourished, but it was Jackson who looked more promising. That's why he is starting.

How good does Maxi need to be to steal Dwight's starting spot? I don't think he could make such a stride this season. Maybe in the next one though?

This goes along with Dirk's suggestion that Dwight will be gone in 2 years.

Don't judge me. I'm rewatching it now... Mavs vs Mavs... I love every player on the floor! Strange game to watch because of the pacing, but it's still a lot of fun. I wish some of Doncic's passes worked. At least he's making them during a game like this, rather than during a game that counts. I think he really understands when he can take such risks. I mean... he's rookie of the year. That commands respect.

Yeah he may not be the best starting option, but with all the money owed to him, I just figured that they would at least try him out as a starter for the beginning of the season to see how it works. They will probably try to trade him away eventually, but I wouldnít be surprised to see him get the Wes treatment while heís here. A sixth man role probably accomplishes the same goal, but we never saw Wes put into that role.

I watched it again too. KP is going to score loads of points. Curry has matured and gained a lot of confidence. If we had a real good wing, we would be no doubt playoff team..maybe even an outside contender.
As of now we are a really exciting team that can ride Luka and kp to big nights and the others fill in the voids.

For sure. It's a very close call for me between the young Nash Dirk Fin days and the championship run. I had plenty of heartache from '06 and a few times between where on paper we had contending teams but getting jobbed in the finals put hesitation on my excitement. The Nash, Dirk, Fin (&NVE) era Mavs are the closest thing to what we have now because of the youth and massive potential coupled with the lack of playoff experience. For me, it's like strapping into that same ride again.

THJ has to become more efficient or he's unplayable...hopefully he will playing alongside Doncic and KP..but there's a chance that this is just who he is..
