I’m not claiming to be an authority on Green (or any player in this draft for that matter haha) But Green DOES have an NBA frame- about 6-6 220 and NBA level athleticism. He has pedigree— was a top 10 recruit and is young; 19 going on 20. He also shot pretty well from 3 as a Freshman. To me, those are huge distinctions between the guys you listed(excepting Poku)and Green.

He smells like a Jae Crowder type to me.

almost no chance of making an allstar game, but a very good likelihood of playing 8-10 years.

what's made you get cold feet on Green?
anything more specific? your own or someone else's analysis?

Questionable decision making and appears it could take several years to develop are concerning to me considering our situation.

I think the potential is there but not sure the ceiling is high enough to take that chance when some others that could be available seem to either have higher upside (Poku) or could contribute immediately (S. Bey).

I’m basically getting cold on him more because we have a pretty deep roster and I don’t see him getting much opportunity much like Reaves last season.
I think he’d be a decent pick at 18 for a team in full rebuild mode but we are a little too far along imo.

Tyrese Maxey is moving up my draft board. In pre draft workouts he looks bigger than his listed size and crazy athletic. I think he’s probably gone 8-13 range.

Edit: here’s the video I saw:

NBA level athlete, no doubt. I’d roll the dice on teaching him to shoot— his shot isn’t broken just needs reps and coaching. I agree he’ll be gone before we can draft him but would be happy if he or Kira slipped.

Watched Kira Lewis’ tape against Tyrese Halliburton/ Iowa St. and walked away pretty disappointed. I know he’s young and we need to project into the future, but compared to Halliburton he looked disinterested and slow.

These mocks are so all over the place that I'm not sure how one could take much from them. Like bleacher report having Cole Anthony at 7? Weird.

To be fair, only ESPN and the Ringer really do any analysis and the only sources who have gotten more than 15-20% of picks right.

Also, the volatility just proves that this draft is super weak at superstars. I think we may see 20-30 starters coming out of this draft,t but I doubt we'll see more than 2 stars.

At the rate these clowns count, the questionable ballots flowing in, and the law suits, this thing looks to be going well past the NBA restart.

Yeah it looks like Trump will contest it until Jan and maybe after

but looks like we'll have our first count completed by December

Please dont blame the "clowns who are counting".

When the GOP realized they are going to lose because of the Mail-ins, they instructed their Poll Watchers to challenge every freaking ballot.

Also a lot of people are talking about how vets may get higher billing this year? Older players are often underappreciated which is where I think we can make a killing, but maybe other teams will value guys who can immediately contribute too.

1) No summer league
2) They are drafted and potentially have a week or two before training camp

That's going to be a shock for a lot of rookies.

I'm actually in favor of this. I don't like a mostly meaningless summer league and then months of sitting around waiting for camp. Just throw them to the wolves!

Yes, way better for the fans. It's going to be a fever pitch of anticipation...trades, then the draft, then free agency and maybe some more trades, then camp, then boom - REAL, REGULAR SEASON GAMES. So much fun.

But yeah, some rookies who might've been playable in years past might not be ready to jump in right away this year.

Hollinger from the Athletic

18. Dallas – Aleksej Pokusevski, “power” forward, Olympiakos B
Okay, let’s talk about the biggest mystery meat of the draft, because there is a lot of subterfuge to process here.

The rumor is that Pokusevski has a promise from a team in the first round, and that’s why he bailed on the draft combine. Bigger picture, that may also be why he bailed on much of his 2019-20 season, depending on when the promise came.

Adding fuel to the fire are two data points: 1) Pokusevski’s agent, Jason Ranne, used to work for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and 2) The Thunder themselves are notorious in league circles for promising their pick and having him shut down workouts and other public viewings waaaaay ahead of the draft.

I don’t think the Thunder are the only ones playing poker here, though. At the 18th pick, we have a Dallas team with a noted proclivity for swinging for the fences on high-upside international prospects. Sometimes they get Dirk Nowitzki and sometimes they get Pavel Podkolzin, but they’ll keep swinging.

So why wouldn’t the Mavs take a swing here? Instead, there are widespread rumors that Dallas is shopping the pick in search of a high-level wing.

Color me dubious. They’re going to trade this pick for a wing when they’re trying to create max cap room in 2021? They’d either nuke the cap space or end up trading a first-round pick for a rental. This feels more like a smokescreen to dissuade the teams behind them from jumping up to 17 and taking their guy.

I don’t see Pokusevski making it all the way to the Thunder at 25 in either case, which means Oklahoma City may need to use its surfeit of future firsts to move up. Regardless of which team lands Pokusevski, I think he goes in the mid-to-late teens, possibly as high as 14 to Boston.

I understand the Poku love — he’s tall and skilled. But, he has no mass, isn’t an elite athlete like Giannis, and is basically two years away from being two years away. When you have Aaron Rodgers it makes no sense to draft Jordan Love. Similarly, when you have Luka Doncic it makes no sense to take a huge project regardless of upside. We’re not the Thunder desperate for a star to stay relevant.

See I think these kids are going to have to learn fast and be ready to soak up some minutes that other rookies might not typically get. They might struggle with their teams system, but there are vets that are likely to take on more load management for a while. I wouldn't be surprised to see more bench minutes in the league than we have seen in a while.

Summer league really is less about development than it is showcasing talent and teams are already into their first -- and often even second-round picks.

I think the real losers when it comes to Summer League are the undrafted guys and low second rounders. There are always 1-2 guys who really impress and get a look. They won't have their chance this year.

Agree about the undrafted guys. Hopefully teams are up to snuff with their scouting of them. Likely will be a lot of undrafted bigs since they just aren't as valued as guards in today's game.

Interesting outside-the-box take on the draft from a guy who's watched the prospects closely.

Thanks so much for posting this. Confirmed my feelings about Bane(who I’m lower on) and Green and Precious(who I like)and turned me on to some guys I was aware of but need a closer look at. Joe, Perry, Mason Jones. He’s higher on Cole Anthony who I see as just an inefficient volume scorer. I also agree Ball is so overrated.

This is spot on. I hope they aren’t taking him. I think his upside is Kukoc Or Turkoglu without the shooting.

The only way I can talk myself into believing the Mavs are high on Poku is if they see him as a way to draft a player and stash him for cap purposes. Other than that, I'd assume any link from the team to that guy is another (Franky) Smokescreen designed to free up someone else, raise the value of a trade down, etc.

I just don't think any sane GM would view throwing a project like that into the mix for a playoff team with actual, real holes to fill as a good idea. That's a swing for a team looking for an All-Star around whom to build.

It's a Denver move for sure. He's a guy like Porter that may be an allstar, but mostl likely will never be anything.

If he's nothing, you just forget about him.

If he's an allstar, you look like a genius.

I think I’m all in on Tyrell Terry and now worried he won’t make it to us. Would be thrilled with Terry or Precious. My favs among guys who have an actual chance of making it to us is something like: Terry, Precious, Kira, Saddiq Bey and then Josh Green/Maledon/Nesmith/Maxey in the next tier. Possible picks before us of guys I don’t like; Poku and Cole Anthony.

Ball, Wiseman, Edwards, Okongwu, Vassell, Deni, Hayes, Jalen Smith, Hampton, Halliburton, Toppin, Patrick Williams and Saddiq I see as near locks to go before we pick— with Smith or Williams maybe falling to us if all breaks right. So that’s 13 picks.

If we are looking to move up a few spots I hope it’s for the Jalen Smith, Bey, Kira, RJ, Tyrell, Precious (and Maxey if you believe in his shot) tier. To me there is a drop in talent from this “future starter” “4th best player on a contender tier“ to the next tier of Josh Green and Nesmith and Maledon and Bane who all COULD be good role player starters or good second unit guys but lack upside due to athletic, measurement or skill limitations.

My take on possible interest in Poku is that he could be developed to become an eventual replacement for the oft injured KP. Unique skill set for a 7 footer.
I think Mavs attempt to trade that pick for for a vet wing or aging star and Poku could be their backup plan.

But I could see them picking Poku and then trade back with OKC to pick up an asset and then grab a wing with that pick.

The most likely suitor for Poku imo is Boston with one of their many first rounders.

Considering that #18 is probably the best pick we are going to have over yeaaars to come, then it makes sense to shoot for the high risk high reward guy. Because its probably our last chance in the Luka timeline to draft such a raw high ceiling guy with our pick.

And he wont get stashed. Better to put him in the G league for playing time and under Mavs supervision for strength and conditioning training

I think the teams who like him see him as a WING, not a BIG. Like, closer to Luka’s game than KP’s...though he won’t ever become half as good as either, probably. But, in those videos of him that have been circulating for the past few months, he is definitely playing the three hand handling the ball for his team.

Regarding Poku: is his ceiling really that high? Maybe relative to the other guys in this draft. But he’s not an amazing athlete, can’t shoot, bad body for now. He can handle the ball for a big guy. I just don’t see the appeal. Maybe I’m missing something.

Probably so.
I tend to see some Ginobli in his game.
