Could use JJB right now. Luka's getting a bit tired it seems.

I still would like to see him get consistent minutes before giving up on him. That retooled stroke of his needs some regular usage.

mavs should win this, but aside from Luka and Maxi, there's not really a lot of joy watching this game. :-(

Yes, but he's 19, and I'm glad Rick left him in. I don't trust Rick to pull him for 2 minutes for a quick breather. It's not in his operating manual.

I'm glad we're winning, but the same problems are still pretty obvious. Just pure trash without Wonderboy and Kleber this game.

Nice to get a win. I'm most interested to see what the starting lineup is next game. I honestly don't have a clue as to what Carlisle will do.

Agree 100%. DSJ needs to be a shooting guard for the Mavs or he's better off moving on imo.

Everyone knows that, but Dennis can't be the SG if he isn't allowed to shoot. That's why Matthews and Barnes need to go...

Luka needs to work on those FT's. Some of it I think was fatigue though. But he's missing a lot recently.

I agree they need to go but he's passing up shots too for no apparent reason. Maybe with them off the floor he would be more aggressive though. That's my hope anyway.

Edit- To add to it Ced showed 2 plays before the game tonight where he passed up 2 different shots where a defender was 11 feet away.

Maybe it's just me, but Barnes was surprisingly better tonight passing the ball. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on this moving forward to see if this is an adjustment in his game. I sure hope so.

He's such a skilled slasher that he may need to consciously focus on putting up open shots first instead of looking to drive. I'd almost prefer that anyway because once he gets up a head of steam, if things don't go as planned, he's not good at adjusting.

Luka is great. How lucky we are to have gotten him. The biggest no brainer is that he needs to be running our offense.

Maxi showing why he has earned that spot with the s5.

Trade Powell messley dsj and maybe barnes.

I know exactly what he will do. Back to the original. Dsj looking lost running the offense or standing in the corner.

Bullets:
  • The first half was tough. Didn't look like we were able to turn the corner at all. Thank good we have a guy named Luka who took over the game in the third.
  • How many assists could Luka get if people would actually hit their open shots that he generates for them?
  • Maxi needs a permanent spot in the rotation. Dude is just a positive on both ends. I'm already raging when thinking about that Rick will absolutely go back to his standard unit once DSJ returns.
  • Some praise for Ninja-Wes tonight: I felt he wasn't as much of a ball-stopper and only took shots he was supposed to take.
  • Same applies to Barnes, which had a bad shooting night, but showed some playmaking. The starting five still looked very stagnant whenever Luka wasn't facilitating, but there was some progress. I still believe both Barnes and Wes in the unit is overkill. And DJ four turnovers... this seriously has to stop.
  • Another bullet re Barnes: Dude shot ten FTs, but he got visibly frustrated at times. I agree he probably gets fouled more often than the refs blow the whistle, but he's not good at understanding how to adjust his game / drives to get more calls. It's not a Mavs thing. We get plenty of FTs as a team.
  • I like Ayton as prospect, but coming out that flat after he got hyped up doesn't look great. This is why Luka gets more publicity and will win ROY. Has Luka been outplayed by anyone in this rookie class so far?
  • If you feel Dirk is the reason why our bench was out of sync lately, think again. Tonight he was out and the second unit still looked horrible. The main culprit imho is that JJB really can only effectively create for himself and his pick and roll partner. So whenever his shot isn't falling or teams don't give Powell the rim-roll (which they don't because he shoots like 0% from three), it's game over.
  • That's why it's great that we have Brunson waiting to take over that JJB role in the future. He's not as crafty around the ring, but almost always makes the right play and is not as much of a ball hog.

1. Luka is a great leader for our team. He shows it again and again. Please bring DSJ from the bench. Try to play him with JB?

2. Luka needs to work on his FTs.. , but yeah we expect a lot from him! 30 point game is a 30 point game even if he misses some FTs

3. Maxi in the Starting Lineup is where he belongs. He is our best PF at the moment when you include Defense into the picture! He also keeps most of the time smaller guards in front of him...

4. Nina-Wes is a good fit with Luka on the floor. I think our best guard rotation is at the moment Luka with Barnes and Wes. I think Matthews should get some appreciation for his better games since he realised he can not only shot and shot and shot 3s. He adjusted his game well and he also now plays more in the paint.

5. Barnes shot didn't went well tonight, but he went a lot to the line to shoot FTs.

6. I really hope Rick just leaves the rotation like it was tonight for some games. It's not a bad thing to experiment and try to play DSJ from the bench. He could maybe even perform better when he comes in the second unit..

Well dammit. I'm watching Luka make a spectacular play and I had almost no reaction. The kid is so good that his special plays have now become "normal" for him. If this is his baseline, how high can he go? Flat out amazing and crazy happy that the MBT hit a walk-off home run with this this draft pick.

HB, JJB, DH, and DFS all had a horrible shooting night. Not much else to say other than it kept the game a lot closer than it should have been.

Phoenix is definitely an exciting and young team. They could really develop into strong team but right now they foul like crazy. I'm just not a fan of Booker and think they would be better off without him for whatever they can get back in trade.

As for DSJ, before we just give up on him and trade for whatever we can get, I would like to see his minutes get up to 32+. Move Wes to the bench and try to stagger best as you can HB and DSJ's minutes so that each can be #2 options. His outside has looked a lot better this year. I would like to see him create at about the same rate he is currently and use the extra minutes as a outside spot up shooter for Luka, JJB, Brunson, and hopefully HB to pass to for open threes.

I have no problems bringing DSJ in but he has to play the 2 if he's going to be on the floor. Allow Luka to facilitate the offense, and by all means, allow the offense to go through Luka instead of Barnes. Let the offense go through Barnes as a secondary options, and please tell Jordan to stop taking unnecessary chances with the ball. And stop having guys feed it in to Jordan when he's triple teamed.

Barnes needs to be the third option with DSJ the second if this is going to work. Barnes is at his best catching and shooting threes (when they go in which hasn't been lately), but then he goes into Kobe mode and it kills the offense. There is nothing worse than a player who thinks he is better than he actually is.

If Smith plays SG, then he needs the green light scoring the ball without any reservations. Otherwise, it's not going to work. And if they flush such a valuable asset down the drain, then I don't know what to say.

That also means Wes needs go to to the bench or be traded. And then you can start Kleber.
