Default OT: tell us about yourself on the basketball court

I'm 6'5" (or maybe 6'6" with shoes) and a 3-point specialist. I won a 3-point contest at L.A. Fitness, hitting 70% of my shots and 50% from half court. I've never been coached, and I'm too old now at 39. When I won that contest I was 31 years old so that was 8 years ago. I've had foot problems that have kept me off the court since my mid-30s, which sucks since I absolutely love playing basketball.

I haven't dunked since my 20's either. It's not that easy when you're 270 lbs at my height. I could do that with ease when I was lighter though at 183 lbs as I was in my mid-20s. Anyway, no clue if I still have my shot. I would like to get back in the gym and back in basketball shape.

Anyway, I am just curious how many of us are fans of the Mavs and/or love playing the game as well.

I'm 6'3 and 37 year old, overweight right now. I myself have a very good amateur level shot, will make most of my wide open mid range shots and threes. I have a good feel for the game (at the amateur level), but unfortunately my athleticism sucks a**, and can't do anything with my left hand other than the simplest ball handling. I can't pass with it and I can't finish layups with it, so that makes it easier for bigger and faster players to guard me. But because of my shot and b-ball IQ, I am still relatively useful 5 on 5, not so much in 2 vs 2, and definitely not one on one.

Interesting topic

I'm about 6'5 played mostly SF doing my playing days.

I played both high school and college ball in Northern California. San Jose university a small D1 program for two years.

If I had to described my style of play it would be more of a old school version of Stacy Augmon type perimeter defender.

My days of active playing are long over now but I currently have two sons playing D-2 ball both in the state of Mexico

So, I'm more of a big cheerleader now....

I've been a die hard Mavs fan since the days of Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman and Roy Tarpley.

Loved those 80's teams when I was growing up as a kid. One of my favorite memories was watching the Mavs take the Lakers to 7 games in the WCF's I believe in 88 great memories as a kid

I'm slightly taller than Barea, so I barely saw the floor in an 8-man squad back in middle school, ended up moving on to football in high school (WR/CB) where my burst and top speed could make up for my lack of height.

I had no discernable basketball at all during high school. I think I showed those lack of moves during the dallas-mavs.com scrimmage we had a LONG time ago

Size/Build - Stockton
Style - Nash (not exactly the most fitting alias)
Closest Look-a-Like - Craig Ehlo back then but no hair now at age 55...more like Bilas or Vitale
Position - PG
Highest Level - HS varsity (small 2A school)….would have never been good enough to play in the Dallas area.
Childhood Hero - Dr. J
Why Mavs Fan - Ro played college ball near my hometown and was pure class even though I was/am a Jayhawks fan. Moved to Dallas area about same time Ro was drafted.
Mavs fan since - 1982
Sports Passion - Mavs #1, KC Chiefs #2, Jayhawks #3, Tex Rangers #4

5'10". Good athlete. Awesome rebounder (despite the height), decent on 3's, good defender, hustle is off the charts. Definitely more of an off the ball guy. I'm not really good at handling the ball against decent competition. Back when I was playing regularly I was compared to Najera or Ginobili. I'd always just show up to pick up games and the guys would refer to me as Najera early on, then later on I got the Ginobili nickname. I'm 38 now and haven't really played in about a year or more. I live out in the sticks so the drive deters me. I also don't have the same patience that I once did for the macho pick up basketball attitude I seem to run into.

If there is a dallasmavs.com pick up game I'd be down to run.

OutletPass organized at least 2 of them (maybe 3 - I can't remember). His son (one long blue sock) was the star of the show

I had completely forgotten about this... I'm pretty sure I was out of town on business during the pickup game get togethers..I know I was in Denver for a couple of them. But yeah, I was around for a few get together at local drinking establishments...

My game now... I have no idea. I have a solid mid range game and can attack the rim. My outside shot isn't what it was in high school when I was a good 3 point shooter, but I'm still adequate. And yeah, somewhere along the way, I developed the ability to attack the rim. I was All-District a couple of years but that was a LONG time ago..
Defensively...I resemble a guy that really likes to play offense.

Just shy of or right around 6 feet. 3 and D with little to no handles. Surprisingly adept at finishing around the rim, but with no way of getting there save the random good cut or breakaway. Good athlete, shooter and defender, hustle for rebounds and box-outs. Willing screener, but not great out of it, meaning when the roll is there and my guy sees it, I'm typically oblivious to it. I'll play hard and then some times you'll see me taking a possession off via a breakaway or long pass, hoping my teammate makes the shot so I don't have to run down for a half court set LOL

This is my favorite quote from my freshman basketball, football, and tennis coach. He was talking to my father about my basketball abilities. He told him "He's deceptively slow. He isn't quick, but he gets exactly where he wants to go."

I played YMCA ball in middle school. I think the only time I scored it was on the wrong basket. About 5 years ago me and some friends who were all real bad would get together weekly to play what we called "badsketball" because we were all so horrible. I was probably the worst of that group. I'm now 34 and haven't played really at all in the 5 years since that ended, so do the math.

All of that being said, basketball is still one of my favorite sports to play.

A bit. But my range made it barely out beyond the high school 3 pt arc. I have no Euro step abilities. Im 62. And, well, I was good offensively up to about the 4A level in high school back in the 90s... a good 5A squad would have patted me on the head and sent me to get their water and towels for them.

thanks man - dang everyone else on here is like really good. or at least internet tough lol?

i'm the 5 foot nothing, 100 and nothing pounds Rudy type player...
5'9" and thin. all right hand though i can crossover for a pull up going left but not really drive well with my left. never played competitive basketball growing up unfortunately. would have loved to.

shooting is streaky these days and out of shape and slower... in younger days could get to the hoop but not much of a mid range game. If playing against someone my size i love to post up but usually no one passes it to me down there.

5'11.5" 200lbs

Love to mix it up inside. Never really played much organized ball except for a tournament here and there. Decent outside shot, but utilize it very reluctantly. Inside, I can finish with either hand, and my turnaround shot on post-ups over either shoulder are pretty money. Developed my ability to play inside from thousands of one-on-one games with a brother four years my elder. In order to get shots up comfortably, I had to develop a very high -- Bill Cartwright-esque -- release point.
