ESPN on the JUMP

Richard Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins

Denver has a future MVP on their roster right now.

They think Denver is in win now mode and did the right thing going for it this year.

They love the lineup of Jokic, Gordon, Porter and Murray. They think you could also play McGee next to Jokic at times giving them more flexibility.

My personal opinion I hope the Nuggets take down both LA teams because I hate the love that the media gives those two squads.

They have been without a backup Center all season so that McGee trade was quite necessary. I hope they take down LA too. And that Utah or Denver comes out of the West. Harris was a good defender for them but heís always hurt and inconsistent. I guess theyíll close with Jokic, Porter, Gordon, Murray and either Barton or Mathis depending on matchup. Dozier there too so they will always have 4 playmakers on the flooró I donít count Porter as a playmakeró pretty impressive! We have like one playmaker on our entire roster

Not a good day to be named Gary.

Every Gary in the league (Harris, Clark, and Trent) is now looking for a new place to live.

Biggest rumor right now... Lowry to the Lakers.... not confirmed but Toronto is waiving players and the thinking is a bunch of Lakers going back to the Raptors.

Celtics trading Daniel Theis to Bulls for Mo Wagner will take them back under luxury tax. Would also land them a draft asset.

Theis misses the game winning 3 last night and gets traded.

I like Theis. Bulls made significant upgrades in their roster.

Because JJ reddick wins us a championship...

Mark just trying to get a few favorable spots on his podcast.

Itís a 5 team race in the West and still 2 team race in the east (despite Chicagoís moves). Count this as year 1 wasted for Luka as a top 10 player (not counting last yearís ascendency).

yeah I'm not understanding this move at all especially since you had younger options out there available with more size as shooters.

The fact that Boston gave up only 2 round picks for Fournier is absurd and to think Reddick is better than Fournier is even more silly.

But hey some people will justify this move to the end knowing damn well there were better options out there then Reddick

Then you fcator into account that he will share the floor with Brunson and THJ often and I cringe at that lineup defensively.

Do you know that Donnie didnít have the same offer on the table for Fournier? Maybe we did and Orlando decided to trade him to Boston. Do we know what we gave up for Reddick?

i think Boston's trade exception made it so that Orlando didn't have to take back salary. That's a clear win for them and probably was what led them to deal with Boston. Let's stop raging about Evan friggin Fournier.

Yup. Hayward trade exception made this deal possible.

Who said anything about a Redick move being about defense? You are literally the only one who thinks Fournier can play defense.

I also see you bitching about Johnson's expiring where there was 2 hours left from the deadline. You are a fucking drag to read through these forums. Whine whine whine, take it elsewhere.

Also a big assumption he would be paired with Brunson. It's almost as if you don't understand rotations. You've got a good deal of knowledge, just terrible at laying it out and having rational discussions and commentary. Trust me, I don't post much these days, but read and keep up plenty. You don't offer much around here aside from constant negativity.

Does anyone actually think that Redick will be a 15-20 minute guy?

Seems like we just picked up our Keith Van Horn or Walt Williams for our playoff run-- a guy who will sit on the bench racking up some DNPs before coming in to terrorize a team for 5-10 minutes before getting another DNP.

Also Redick is a ferocious competitor and a serious vet who has played in the post-season for 13 years including a conference finals. He's going to give us leadership and attitude.

Depends on what site or what NBA analyst you listen to

I have my opinion that he will slide right in next to Brunson off the bench and play extended minutes.

This is from an article on another site and how they feel

So where will Redick fit into the Mavs rotation?

It seems logical that Dallas would not acquire Redick without the thought of him playing a major role in the team's rotation going forward.

Where it becomes interesting is whether or not he will shift into the starting lineup, sending someone like Dorian Finney-Smith to the bench, become a seventh-man of sorts alongside Tim Hardaway Jr, or allow Hardaway to move back into the starting five.

I actually think the Mavs lack of activity is mainly due to money. I know Cuban is a billionaire and all, but aside from KP's contract, they always appear to me to be going the cheap route. I think that's the main reason they didn't pursue Vuc a couple of years ago.

If this isn't the reason, then they are just adrift as an organization. They lucked into Luka. Next year will be his 4th yr with the Mavs, and if they love their current roster, then Luka will probably love to leave in a couple more years. This is dispiriting to me. :-/

I'm ready for things to change, but they will continue doing what they've been doing for years. Luka will not watch years go by and remain put on a mediocre team imo.

Thats a hot take. Mavs with prime Dirk were always way over the salary cap. Cuban gave Parsons a 3y max deal, gave post Achilles Wes a big deal etc etc. Mavs dont cheap out.

And the "mediocre team" is gunning for HCA, despite being together with the Heat one of the two teams who got screwed by Covid big time.

I'm hoping he's loyal like Dirk

I know some fans say we live in a different era from when Dirk played but I'd like to think Luka is just as patient.

Having said that when I watch young teams like Chicago and Denver say hey let's go for it since we already have An All Star or All-Stars on the roster let's not wait 2 or 3 years down the road.

Denver IMO did a great job knowing they have Jokic and Murray already and tasted some playoff success they aren't settling now.

Chicago deal for Vuc came from out of nowhere and now they have two All-Stars in a weak East conference.

Mavs got MKG in last year buy out market maybe they get Porter who might provide a better experience than MKG did last year.

I just don't think they have the roster to really compete now......

Drummond is probably running straight to LA heard it might be the Clippers and the FA pool this offseason looks weak as hell.

Luka and KP are great talents but the rest of this roster would be coming off the bench for most teams so that's how far we are away.

Fournier - couldnt compete with Bostons trade exception. Thats instant savings for the Magic in high single digit millions.

Oladipo - would be stupid to use assets with all the Miami chatter. Since Giannis re-signed its so obvious that Oladipo is returning to florida in free agency

Powell? Well, guess the Raps really like Gary Trent. Dont see a package that makes sense for us to trade for Powell and that the Raps like more than Trent.

Gordon? We still own the KP picks, Gary Harris has still potential over washed up JJ etc. So no, we dont beat out the Nuggets package.

Vuc?`Cant beat a package with a still young and good center prospect and two FRP

So there was really nothing lost for the Mavs at the trade deadline

Potential buy out candidates

Redick was on this list if they didn't find a trade partner so I guess we can scratch his name LOL

Has Drummond linked to Brooklyn or Knicks
Aldridge linked to Miami
Whiteside linked to Lakers
Cousins linked to Celtics

Agree with all of this.

What you are describing has not happened within the last 3 years. Yes, money was spent previously, but to me it looks like Cuban has definitely put the brakes on some of the spending. I can't say that I blame him. Look at what he got for Parsons, Wes, even Powell. Heck, I don't think the Mavs would've been appreciably worse had Cuban decided to save those tens of millions of dollars he spent on those guys instead of not pursuing them and letting them play elsewhere.

I have to imagine that if/when there are players worth going into the tax for Cuban will spend again. There are some discouraging signs that point the other direction of course. I think they donít want to start the luxury tax clock ticking until absolutely necessary.

I think this is the main reason the Mavs didn't go after Vucevic - money. Yes, I'm still bitter about them not even trying to sign him.

in the summer of 2019 we only had 35million and only seven guys under contract. Giving another PF/C 80% of our cap money to play the same position as the guy we just traded multiple first rounders for seems absolutely insane.

Good teams simply do not play two players that play the same position max money.

Are you implying that Paying KP/Vucevic would have been a waist of money because those guys play C/PF?

If that's the case the Hawks shouldn't even consider paying Collins because they already have Capella right?

Philly actually paid Horford despite already having Embiid

Now it didn't work out because those two guys didn't fit on the court together but that's a different story same situation.

IN this case KP could have played with Vuc and I don't think any Mavs fans would have complained about the money situation.

The Dallas Mavericks reportedly made a run at center Nikola Vucevic during the 2019 free-agency period, but they couldn't match the four-year, $100 million contract he received from the Orlando Magic.

Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News provided details of the Mavs' pursuit Monday:
They did try to go after him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and center Andre Drummond will work on a buyout as the center will listen to pitches from six teams, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Drummond will speak with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets, according to sources. – via Chris Haynes @ Yahoo!

Hopefully he stays in the east

The Mavs don't have the size to matchup if he's go to the Lakers and that series is over in 5 games.

The one advantage I thought we had over the Clippers was they lacked big men and now if he goes there I think they would beat the Mavs again in a playoff series.

The Clippers were the one team in the top 4 that I thought the Mavs could upset prior to the trade deadline.

I really hate the fact that even with Luka on this team top players still aren't dying to come to Dallas.

Hell there's a report that if Redick was bought out he was headed to Brooklyn and that's why the Mavs had to trade for him as opposed to wait for him to get bought out.

I just don't don't get why guys aren't interested in joining the Mavs as prime FA's or buy out candidates.

Agree!!!!. Not sure we will get to waste more than 2 years of his time.

Honestly curious: what do you get out of constantly bringing negative opinions about the Mavs?

You are allowed to have interests you are positive about.

I love the Mavs. Love that they made the trade to get Luka. He will be the best player in the NBA over the next 10 years and I hope all 10 are with the Mavs. I fear that the inability for the front office to build anything, even incrementally is going to cut his stay short. Let's be honest, the only reason the Mavs are a little better this year and might finish 6th or 7th is because Luka continues to improve and is actually statistically the best defender on the Mavs in addition to a top 3 offensive guy in the league. He got better and the Mavs team around him have not. What will change next year? We likely will add zilch in the draft, and it appears there are no big name top tier talent to be landed in the off season. If KP doesn't truly become a top 20 player in league, then the Luka era will end poorly. I would also say if the Mavs are one and done in the playoffs this season and don't progress next season then by definition Rick is not the solution. So sorry about perceived negativity but I think my position is more warranted because of the failure to add any meaningful talent around Luka in his 3rd year than the Pollyannaish view that the Mavs are somehow smarter than the NBA.
