Do we go big and take advantage of our size, or do we match up small? The Kings have been going small lately (obviously), with Barnes sometimes playing center, so I wouldn't be shocked to see MKG end up getting more burn than WCS if Rick thinks he's ready.

For once I'd like to see the mavs dictate another teams lineup.

Seems like we are always trying to match up with the opposition.

Mavs have lost 6 games this year to teams that have 30 or more losses which means no game is a lock especially when the mavs play at home.

I'd like to see them for once start out big with WCS and KP starting

But knowing Rick he'll probably go KP and MKG and hopefully that teams up WCS and Kleber off the bench together

Either way there's absolutely no reason WCS shouldn't get minutes especially since he's played his entire career vs any size lineups prior to arriving in Dallas.

He's agile enough to play vs small ball teams and big enough to play vs big teams.

Typically I'd say Mkg isn't starting or playing many minutes...yet, if ever. But Rick is a counter chess player so we will likely oblige any lineup and apparently try to beat them at their own game.

According to basketball reference MKG has played 80% of his minutes doing his career at SF

Rick is calling him a 4/5

I think he's a top tier defender as a wing player. I really like the option of pairing him up with DFS if we run into the Clippers (1st round) then you can defend both Leonard and George a little better.

I don't like the idea of him playing the 5 because chances are that is going to make Rick surround him with 4 other smaller players and we suck playing that style.

Btw apparently Sacramento has beat Dallas 5 straight games at the AAC. So this matchup worries me to an extent. They always seem to have one guy that just goes off on Dallas.

With a 6'8" PG and no PFs smaller than 6'11" (starter being 7'3"), how do you anticipate Rick plays him with four smaller players?

RC gonna do what RC gonna do. :-O He is quickly becoming like Jason Garrett in my eyes. I'll try and enjoy the game with Luka playing and then laugh when we go smaller and give up leads and collapse and go scoreless with Luka iso ball and the assorted various turnovers down the stretch to blow the game. Laughing because you can see the future but can't change it is much healthier than just getting super-pissed. :-O

Yet you also complain when Carlisle doesn’t play WCS against Gobert, or Boban vs Jokic, because he’s not matching their size with size.

If he plays that small ball 5 role off the bench and kleber starts the game then you'll most likely see him as the center on the floor with the 2nd unit unless they stagger minutes with KP and Kleber while Jackson sits otherwise you may see this initial 2nd unit on the floor at some point if they go the Rockets way

MKG
J.Jackson
Wright
Curry
Brunson

That would make him the tallest player right?

Obviously I don't think WCS would play the 4 off the bench do you....

To me the tandems that make the most sense would be WCS and KP start then Kleber and MKG play the backup 4/5 roles on the floor together

WCS and KP make most sense to me too vs opposing S5. But if you go get a defensive specialist is there a point in bringing him off the bench vs bench guys?

I don't think we will see KP and WCS together much nor do I expect Mgk getting a steady role unless he becomes magically consistent and productive.

Do you think that 5-man unit will actually get time with Doncic and KP available or are you making it up just to be difficult?

Brunson/Curry/Wright/Jackson/Kleber got a total of 40 minutes in the first eight games of the season (while Powell was out) and were +23, but we haven't seen that lineup in the last 45 games and that was with the shot-blocking seven-footer in Kleber. Now we have Kleber, WCS, and Boban.

Unfortunately, I agree with your thinking. It's a bit befuddling how we have major defensive issues that should not be disregarded, and can be addressed with the traditional use of size which we have on the bench, but most of us agree that WCS and MKG are going to be situational players. I just don't get that. If they get very little burn, it's like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. Why go through all of the effort to even acquire WCS and MKG then? I know they were cheap, but still.

1. Perhaps Donnie and Rick aren't always on the same page. I can see Rick shoulder shrugging at the news of some moves he isn't fully involved in.

2. Perhaps these guys were always viewed as insurance and or situational players. A big goes down insert WCS, DFS goes down insert MKG. Wanna piss off 95% of the fan base randomly insert MKG as center.

@espn_macmahon: Holger Geschwindner, Dirk’s longtime mentor, is making his first appearance at the AAC of the season. Believe it or not, he’s wearing a flannel shirt and jeans.

Nice. Hopefully you have a better record than me this season. Seeing how they float a game over .500 I think your good.

Well, one thing that was so obvious is the extent to which Luka's presence papers over the major cracks of this team. I know most people here talk about defense, and going small, but for me one of the most obviously exposed deficiencies of this team has been the lack of solid, secondary playmaking. DW and JB have been a disappointment in that regard. JB should be played as a 2 guard. End of. DW can only play very minor, non-pressure minutes. There is no two ways about it. JJ and Curry should pick up the rest of the creative slack.

No Members Only jacket? I wonder if he’s been working with anyone, or just happened to be in town.

Maybe there is a whole another level to THJ that we just don't know about.

When he loses confidence he can get into a funk and get in a streak of making very poor plays. But he's been playing great for a while now. And this cannot be considered a streak any more. And maybe there is even more. Confidence makes wonders.

For all of those inclined to missappreciate Luka somewhat when expectations are super high, please watch this game and just observe the difference he makes to how the whole team plays. Not just him. But how e v e r y t h i n g is better.
