We need a closer. Luka ain’t it... great quarters 1-3 but in the crunch he’s a deer in headlights.

Mavs love to waste golden opportunities. Pretty much their MO this season.

He was awful down the stretch. Those are pillow statistics... he was maybe THE reason we lost this game.

Trey Burke not playing more in the 4th quarter is criminal. Carlisle knows better than to leave a hot guy like that on the bench.

Luka isn't in shape, and this will be one of the defining traits on whether he is serious about being a superstar or not. He looks like he is back to rookie year weight/movement...if not worse.
But hey, first game back. And I undoubtedly think we are better than the Rockets.

Those are empty stats if you ask me
He looked god awful late in games once again
He just doesn't seem to have that closing ability yet. It might come later but as of right now he's a terrible game manager
Bad passes left and right in key situations he"ll try to make a highlight real pass instead of the simple pass that would have led to safer possessions

Carlisle consistently does things like this not sure why anyone would be surprised he did it again tonight.

Blowing 7 point lead with 45 seconds left is inexcusable.
Will we get to hear Rick talk on FSSW?
Wonder what he'll have to say.

He almost seems to be predictable with his drives as it appears he prepares to pass instead of aggressively attacking.

That was one of those games where you just let that guy keep cooking. You that hot you keep them in the game to keep cooking. What a waste of a performance he should've had at least 40 points tonight off the bench.

Seriously I know everyone loves RC
He's a great coach but I'm puzzled as to why you leave boban on the bench in a situational play like that ft miss by harden?
Seems like in that situation you get your biggest guy on the floor to grab a rebound in case they miss
It's just little things like that strategically that I don't understand why we consistently fail at

It irks me to see KP especially hugging Rockets after a loss that is partially on him. Luka too. If KP or Maxi got lower on the box out they may have gotten the rebound. Maybe they were trying to split the difference in case of intentional miss? Either way, they weren’t physical enough.

He stuck with his starters and got rewarded with crappy play...
I'd usually support playing curry/smith/hardaway over burke - most of us would. but tonight not one of them were worth much down the stretch...

It’s not the most efficient shot, but he needs to work on the midrange pull-up/floater. Tough shot going full steam. But something along the lines of what Kawhi does. It means they have to guard 3 planes. Right now he’s 3 point or finish at the rim or, tonight especially, pass. They were waiting on the corner pass. Too predictable.

Yes Curry and Hardaway only value tonight was floor spacing. Defense still has to respect those dudes anyway. But they were both terrible in the second half.

Curry, Hardaway and Smith were all essentially useless tonight. Smith and Hardaway I can sort of get since they offer something on defense and are bigger sized players......but how did Curry stay in over Burke? I just don't get it.

I'm a little disappointed that KP wasn't more dominating in the paint. He had some nice shots in the paint, but even though he had 39/16 he didn't dominate around the rim like I thought he would on both ends against those miniature Rockets.

I know this game is a bit of an outlier but one thing it pointed up to me is the fungibility of a guy like Brunson. No one great NBA skill to hang his hat on. Guys like Burke on a minimum contract can give you 85% of what Brunson does pretty consistently and some nights score 20+ pretty efficiently.
Same goes for Delon as I think Sefant pointed out earlier

Yeah but I take 39/16 any day of the week. That's domination.

Entering Friday, teams were 2-711 when trailing by 7+ points with less than a minute to go in regulation.
What a joke.

That's why I was so confused with the raw excitement of the front office by drafting Brunson
I know he was a only 2nd rounder but why draft a backup point guard? There's always some 6' dude that can play a little bit in the NBA so why go out of your way to draft one with an early 2nd round pick? If you are going to draft a midget guard they should have elite athletic ability or a killer 3 point shot
At least a guy like Shake Milton is 6'5" AND it seems like he's got a 3 point stroke

They rarely run any sets for him late in games
Tbh I'd much rather have the late game offense go through KP as opposed to Luka because he seems to make better decisions with the ball
I think dude has as much talent as Anthony Davis and he should be used as such in late game situations

I heard the opposite. That he was plenty in shape.
