Beverley
Doncic
Zion
KP
Vuc

That would be fun and Rick could throw out some crazy lineups like going really big since Zion can defend at the perimeter and KP/Vuc can shoo the three

Thanks to the Davis-less Pelicans beating the crap out of Lebron, we jumped to #8

With the Grizz and Wiz blowing even harder, its gonna be tough to reach #7 or better

Yeah we can lose all we want but the teams below us have to win

Grizz traded Gasol and shelved Jackson and are 0-4
Wizards lost Wall for the season and are 0-4

With so few games left those are the only two teams we have a chance to overtake and theyíre fiercely losing

That's unnecessarily mean. Dirk started last night and had 15 points - his best outing of the season

I don't mind Dirk starting so much with Mejri because of Mejri's shot blocking ability in the paint. That would put Maxi on 2nd team for some much needed additional paint presence when Powell is in there.

Luka doubtful for tonight against the Clippers. Looks like we are leaning into the tank.

I hated this thread when it first popped up...but in the last 2 weeks it's starting to look like it's was ahead of the curve. FK, what a long wait until late October! Add in a disappointing pit stop at the draft where the "tanking" won't pay off. <--attempt at reverse jinx

While anything is possible, it seems like only drafting 6th-11th is possible within reason.

23 games left and it's going to be really hard to move up in the draft. My odds are still on securing solo possession of #8 from the Pelicans, but being unable to move past the Wizards (without Wall) and the Grizz (without Gasol and Jackson Jr. )

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I hope the Mavs at least decide to start Dirk for the remainder of the season or better than 1/3 of my LP money is wasted. :-(

I think a loss to GS in the PO's would be a nice measuring stick for the young guys as well as encouragement to improve during the offseason. Having said that, I don't think we're going to make it. I think we'll miss by 2 or 3 games... basically by a couple of the games we gave away, and that's going to suck if we are that close imo. Just my .02.
Mavs currently project to have a higher chance of the #1 pick in the draft than they do of making the playoffs (3.8% vs 2.8%, as I recall). The problem with both tanking and making the playoffs is the other teams. Were we to try to get down in the bottom five...well, with Zion there, there are others doing the same, and if you look at the standings, there are already 4 teams solidly at the bottom that aren't going to be undertaken. So, there is really only 1 spot left, and Mavs are currently in 9th spot. So, would need to pass up 4 others, also trying to tank. That won't be easy...hence the Mavs liklihood of that first pick not really changing much.

Same is true of a playoff push. Just as to get to the bottom they'd have to pass several teams worse than them...to get into playoffs they'd have to catch, and pass, several teams better than them. Just getting to .500 won't do it...and most here don't really see that happening. But it could get interesting. Mavs play hard, and Carlisle coaches them well. With all their new players, they will only get better as the season progresses.

If they had Barea, I'd say they might make it. That was a really big loss.

I hope the tank is real. We need Zion Williamson! Not really, but it'd be one hell of an addition!

Yea, idk who else they would start. If this were to be his last year, why not let him go out his way. Even if it's not his last year, we have nothing to lose. He's picked his play up and seems to be in better shape.

I don't remember Dirk wearing such a large knee pad on his right knee as he
has in the last 2 games.

Yeah....and the icing on the cake would be the entire Knicks fanbase losing their shit because the picks become even more delayed and more worthless. Hawks fanbase of course also pissed. that would be some fun weeks in june und july

Well, you need to factor the ping pong balls into it, but yes, getting down into 5th slot would take a tanking effort that would probably have the NBA cracking down HARD on the Mavs. The bottom four spots are locks, leaving only the 5th spot. To get there the Mavs would have to catch, and pass, the Wiz, the Griz, and the Hawks. Each of those teams is significantly worse than the Mavs. It's very hard to out tank really bad teams, even if you want to.

Conversely, the teams above the Mavs

the Pelicans, Lakers, Timberwolves, Kings, and Spurs, are all mostly better than the Mavs. It's hard to pass multiple teams that are better than you, too.

I think the Mavs are likely stuck about where they are. They can try to tank, but probably just end up giving the Hawks a better draft pick, or they can try to win, and likely still miss playoffs. I'd say play to win next year. Give the new guys minutes, try to figure out roles, etc. Let the wins fall where they may in doing that.

KP, Doncic, a high draft pick and a couple of key free agent acquisitions make for some very poor first round draft picks..

Finishing 6th through 11th is what's probable.. However, a 1/3 shot of ending up in the top 5 isn't all that bad of odds..

The upcoming game with the Wiz on Wednesday could be huge. We also have Memphis again if Im remembering right. Just moving up one spot means almost 10% better chance at top 5

Nah, we're only talking in the context of "top 5" because we lose our pick to Atlanta if we end up outside the top 5.

Doesn't matter where we finish, the lotto balls will ultimately determine the pick... The #14 team can end up at #1 if the Basketball Gods deem it so.

Blood sacrifice is the only course of action.

Default Really hate this mentality

It is unprofessional. Playing to lose. Thatís a really great mindset to teach the new players. Why even practice or play hard? As a fan, why even spend money on a team who wnats to lose? I understand lottery picks but even if they get #1, it isnít a guarantee they win it all. Loved the Macs before they started becoming to cute with dust chip and organic tanking. I would rather have them lose but trying their best instead of trying to lose. Strange, seems like the game became who gets the best pick? Best pick means your club is a loser.

I think youíre getting your Fish-isms confused... The DUST Chip was Dampierís expiring contract that landed us Tyson Chandler the year that we won the championship. That was a brilliant move... Pretty sure youíre thinking of Plan Powder, which netted us a bag of dicks.

This year is the first year they draw the Top-4. They also flatten the odds...Top-3 have the same odds and the picks after that have improved chances.

So either we give up our pick or we land in the top-4.

We dont play to lose. We just suck after the trades because we lost five guys and pretty much just got one back for now (THJ).

So its about losing and not getting pissed about it.

So you have the net and in it is the bag of dicks? The packaging seems excessive. How about, it netted us a bundle of dicks?

Cuban gets a lot of shit but people also forget that he/the Mavs was the team, who invented non guaranteed final contract years as trade chips...

Trust me, you want the bag. Nothing grosser than a bunch of dick flesh being pressed through the side of some netting.

The bag was definitely only half filled. It was like potato chips where you mostly get air.

We're seasons removed from this happening, but will the team who drafts LeBron's son also be signing LeBron? Seems like it's LeBron's goal to play with him so I could see that being a possibility.

No thanks. Team is doing terrible enough without him. At this point his play doesn't justify him wrecking the franchise for the foreseeable future.

As Hard as it is, I'll probably just take your word for it. The visual that you forced into my mind is good enough for me at this point in my life.

Nonetheless I wonder, if they were in a bag when it was netted... how did the first person know it was in fact a bag of dicks? Was it so full that a couple heads were poking out the top or could it have been a big bag with merely a handful of dicks in it and someone had to reach in and only then knew the treasure that we netted?
