Devin goes so hard all th time, that's why he is susceptable to injury and also why I love him. His motor is always on and he gives his all each night. He's a baller in my book.

I'm a little shocked that passing and assists aren't at the top of Yogi's game.
Holding the Hoosiers all time school record in assists is quite a feat considering that team has been rich in BB tradition since the beginning of Bobby Knight and even before.

The big revelation so far is that Smith can shoot and shoot well. That is obviously essential number 1 tool to have in basketball. It seems he can shoot from almost anywhere on the court as well. There were some negative rumors about hit shooting around the draft. In fact, there were more than a few negative things being said about him that just don't really seem to ring true. Wonder who spread those things (maybe the Mavs to have him slide? Hehe)

He has a nice little pump fake too.

Something we haven't seen from a Mav PG in......IDK.....ever?

Who has been the Mavs best PG dunker of all time before Smith?

Pack and Devin are about the only ones that come to mind.

Pack was the first one I thought of. Roddy B had hops, but didn't really attack the rim like DSJ. Darrell Armstrong was a pretty good dunker early in his career, but I don't remember how much he attacked once he got here.

I actually thought we got the better end of the deal on the Gatling/Jackson/Cassell/Montross/McCloud for Pack/Bradley/O'Bannon/Reeves deal at first but then Pack was oft injured, O'Bannon didn't fit and Bradley never lived up to potential and Reeves was basically a throw-in with potential.

@IsaacHarrisNBA: I asked @NerlensNoel3 about still not starting after the Seth injury, adjusting to the bench role & more https://thesmokingcuban.com/2017/10/...-nerlens-noel/

I still haven't seen anything that indicates him playing 30+ mpg and finishing them. I guess we will find out on opening night...

http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/p...sition/centers

There are barely centers playing heavy minutes in the game. Its a result of the new pace and style.

If Noel plays 26-28min, then he is in a normal range even for starting center. And with playing a lot in the 2nd unit with Barea/Harris he should be able to stuff his statsheet more than with the starters

The issue though to me is he clearly thinks he is worthy of the max. How many of those guys who play 28 or less minutes is worth a max? And that's "if" he plays 28 a game, I'm still not sure he even breaks 24.

i think the season total minutes wont be so important relating to a max contract. It will be all the games without Dirk and if he is able to play and perform then around 30min.

If he can prove he can fill that minute slot after Dirk is gone, he gets his contract.

Noel isn't in charge of his minutes....and Rick is going to try and get the most out of him over the long haul so if he can stay healthy, with the way he has played thus far I don't see why his minutes wouldn't continue to rise over the season.

Maybe the key to keeping him healthy is keeping his minutes down? That's definitely worked for vets in Rick Carlisle's system...

That seems to be his line of thinking. Sometimes you have to protect the players from themselves. I'd expect to see his minutes grow as well as the chemistry of the team as the season goes along.

25-30 minutes, game flow dependent, seems perfect for Noel.
a lot of bigs now below 30mpg. Hoping to see Barnes and Wes come down a couple minutes per game(but know its not happening).

@EarlKSneed: Dennis Smith Jr. is limping to the locker room with an apparent right ankle tweak. #DALatATL

@mavsmoneyball: Mavs up 76-61. Yogi/Powell/Clavell each w/ 11 pts. Clavell 3/5 from 3. Mavs don't need guards, but feels like he's been most consistent.

Agree.

@ESefko: Dennis Smith Jr. wasn't schedule to play in the second half anyway, plus, ankle problem doesn't seem that serious..
