I mean, we're full other than being able to bring one more guy to camp, but we have to cut to 17 before the first day of the season. Looks like we have to either
A) Make Barea a coach and sign Terry
B) Have Terry play overseas or in the G-League (if that is even happening) for a season
I don't see them letting Terry get away.

Agree, Terry could very well turn out to be the best acquisition of this off-season.

I may have preferred Precious to Josh Green, but I also really like Green. And Terry at 31! Who we could have easily taken at 18. And I think we dodged a bullet not getting Gallo. He’s due for another injury now that he secured the bag.

Shane Larkin being the absolute nadir of our midget fascination. Gobert went like 10 picks later.

Is Tyrell Terry 6' 1" or 6' 3"? Google says the latter.

So, it seems WCS really DID want to stay here, and the opt out was about $$$, and NOT about hating Carlisle or over some beef involving his minutes last year.

That's good to know, definitively, once and for all.

Happy he's back.

Whats the point of sending Terry away so Barea can be the (positive) lockerroom clown?

So what will our SL be assuming everyone is healthy.

My guess is: Luka/THJ/Richardson/DFS/KP

Luka/Brunson/Terry
THJ/Burke/Iwundu
Richardson/Green
DFS/Maxi/Johnson
KP/Powell/WCS/Boban

Honestly I want JJB and Terry so Barea can mentor Terry.

We know Terry can shoot. Now he needs to learn to be sneaky and smart from Barea.

1) draw charges
2) Harass teams without big risks of playing passing lanes
3) getting inside
4) Changing speed to get defenders off balance

Barea has a master of those four things and Terry needs those four things to really be effective as a little guy (6'1")

I'm told that Mavs do in fact have 16 players committed to guaranteed contracts, plus Bey and Hinton on 2-ways and Gillespie on an e10 deal.

That means someone will be cut, eventually and, source says "it will be a competitive training camp."

Barea can do this as assistant coach. I know being a player and "one of the guys" is a different feeling, but i think its not worthy to send one of the guys away just to keep Barea as a player

I cannot predict the starting lineup. I just know I want to see Johnson dunk on Morris in a Mavs uniform.

I'd say we get there by Feb when KP comes back.

I really wonder about Powell.
Boban is only there to wreck teams offensively when we can't get things going. WCS will play a lot early.

I love the 1-2-3 of Luka, THJ, and Richardson. THJ was really good guarding 2/3. Richardson was good guarding 1/2. Luka has improved guarding players, but really struggled against guards.

As for WCS being back, I like it in a vacuum, but the pessimist in me sees him staying in Carlisles doghouse in which case it would be a wasted spot. Hopefully im wrong though.

Hes added weight and strength
A little extra get up and explosiveness too

If he can at least compete defensively and not be a total negative maybe he gets some playing time from Rick.

I agree. I like Hinton and of course Bey. Would like to see them develop young guys. Im sure JJB could still help on occasion as a player, but no way he gets steady minutes with Burke and Brunson here.

So, the Barea signing, to me, seems to be a way of getting him a guaranteed salary for the year which will still be paid to him once he's cut.

I believe it's a convenient way to get him a bonus for his career as a Maverick, and a way to increase his salary in year 1 as he moves to coaching.

We'll see.

I kinda feel the same way, but at the same time, I highly doubt they would have brought him back if Carlisle didn't intend to use him. Now maybe its a thing where he more or less disappears from the rotation once KP comes back, but while KP is out, I don't know how much of a choice Carlisle has.

He's my surprise player this year.

I think the early season caution with KP and Powell will allow him more time and he's going to thrive as a roll man on offense and fit much better defensively than Powell.

He kind of reminds of a Tyson Chandler clone

But I'm with you it all depends on if RC let's the guy ball.

They don't bring WCS back, let alone at a higher salary, if they didn't like what he was like here last year, at least a little bit.

Ditto from his end on choosing to come back. He must've wanted to be here, too.

It seems pretty clear that they have been trying to convince Gasol to come here on a similar contract since the start of free agency (and good for them - they SHOULD have tried that, imo) and that WCS has been patiently waiting, hoping he was in the Mavs' plans.

It would be creative if that is the intent.

So, I agree with every word above, when describing his potential and the type of player WCS is. And, we know that this type of center is Carlisle's very, very favorite type. This is why they extended Powell, why they traded for Noel, why they traded for WCS in the first place, etc. Those are all fast, running, switchable on defense types.

So, if it doesn't work out with WCS here, my read will be that the word on him from Sacramento and GS is correct, and that he just doesn't get it, not that Carlisle has somehow wronged him. I'm sure nobody is hoping he works out here more than Carlisle.

Fun fact I read yesterday regarding the Mavs' extended search for a center:

Since Nerlens Noel turned down that Mavs offer of 4/$70 million, which feels like a long time ago, he has earned a total of $9 million.

What a moron.
