I hope you're right on this one. I know it's waiting another year, but it sure would be nice seeing a lot of teams overpay and tying up cap space this year leaving the Mavs a legitimate top FA player hopefully coming off some playoff success next year.

I can see Kostas and Macon being on the regular roster this year in order to save salary cap room for the bigger contracts

The Mavericks will sign Penn Stateís Josh Reaves to a two-way contract, tweets Jonathan Givony of ESPN. Their interest was first reported by ESPNís Tim MacMahon.

The 6í5″ shooting guard averaged 10.6 points and 5.0 rebounds during his senior season with the Nittany Lions. He was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Big 10.

Dallas ended the season with its two-way spots occupied by Daryl Macon and Kostas Antetokounmpo, who are both free agents.

DMN reporting like they're still on the roster -- they even mention them in today's article about Reaves, which would have been a perfect opportunity to mention they were cut:

Quote:
At the end of last season, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said he does not envision Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson or Justin Jackson playing in summer league, but did say he believes Kostas Antetokounmpo and Daryl Macon would play.

@espn_macmahon: Sources: Mavs have extended qualifying offers to Maxi Kleber and Dorian Finney-Smith to make them restricted free agents. Dallas views Kleber and Finney-Smith as quality role players who fit well with their Luka Doncic-Kristaps Porzingis core.

@BobbyMarks42: QO on Kleber is $1.8M and Finney-Smith $1.9M. Low cap hold on both gives Dallas an advantage to use cap space first and circle back to sign each player (exceeding the cap) after room is used.

I heard that news about Kleber and DFS. I'm pleased since they're not getting overpaid.

I have to review who is potentially on the roster.

For starters I'm thinking:

Luka Dončić
Dwight Powell
Kristaps Porziņģis
Dorian Finney-Smith
Maxi Kleber
Tim Hardaway Jr.
Courtney Lee
Justin Jackson
Jalen Brunson
Josh Reaves (Two-Way)
Isaiah Roby (guaranteed or Two-Way?)

Likely returning:
J.J. Barea

Wouldn't mind seeing return:
Trey Burke

AND OF COURSE...
Dirk Nowitzki... 2005-06 version since I am dreaming!

Reaves is on an exhibit 10 contract. Roby is not guaranteed and I haven't seen a contract, though he should get something. Kosta and Macon are still the two-way players. Team option still remaining on Broekhoff.

Given they (edit: Luka and Salah) interviewed together recently, I'd say Salah is likely back, but nothing official.

And honestly, Harris or Burke would be my preference over a 35/36 year old Barea coming off an Achilles tear. All that of course barring FA additions.

I thought Burke looked very comfortable in our offense last season and could be a good scorer off the bench.
Barea is one of my top 5 favorite Mavs of all time but if he isnít 100 % I think Iíd rather have Burke at the right price.

Agree.

Also, my post should have said "Luka and Salah" interviewing together. Didn't quite specify the "they" initially.

Agree. I love Barea, but I'd rather have Burke due to age and obviously Barea's injury. I think his skill set is a decent sub for Barea's, and he may really flourish in it.

Am I the only one that was somewhat impressed with Broek last year?

It seemed he played pretty well when he got an opportunity. Somewhat athletic with some decent hops and not a horrible defender. A great 3pt threat (41%) with a pretty quick release and decent size. Seems to have a nose for the ball as well.

I'm wondering why he didn't get more minutes after the TDL and what I must be missing about his game because there doesn't seem to be much interest in him this off-season.

Barea can play here in a wheelchair far as I'm concerned.

That is what confuses me the most....seems to be a perfect fit for Carlisle's system and was probably the best player on the team next to Dirk to spread the floor for Luka.

Starter material? No, but definitely should have gotten a better look under the circumstances at the end of last season.

Nope. I liked him, showed some grit and hustle on defense. Reminded me of a McDermott type but actually made a visual difference on D.

I think we are probably all on the same page regarding Broek. Maybe with a different looking team this season he can get the minutes he has earned.

Broek is basically Kyle Korver, and you want that on your team. Every team needs a guy that will hit their shots even if that's all they are good at.

@IsaacLHarris: Mavs/Ryan Broekhoff routes today

-If Mavs do not keep, opens up $1.4 mill in cap space. Can also circle back to him for new deal later. Risk another team signing him

-if Mavs do keep, the 6’7” wing who shot 40% from three is on books for $1.4 mill next season.

Mavs need to keep him, and he needs more court time than he got this past season imo.

@townbrad: Can confirm per source that Ryan Broekhoff is guaranteed at $1.4M for next season. The deadline to waive him if Mavs wanted to save the money was 4 p.m. today. Mavs let deadline pass w/o doing anything.

@Mavs_FFL: The Mavs plan to offer Dwight Powell three years, $33 million -- when free agency opens after 6 PM tonight. (@TheSteinLine)

@Mavs_FFL: This DOES NOT impact current cap space because he opted into his current option.

I’d say he’s overpaid but

1) were going to the cap first so he doesn’t impact 2019 cap
2) he’s going to be a starter
3) MLE is 9.5 so barely more than the mid level. Contracts have just grown. I wouldn’t have been upset 5-10 years ago with him getting 6-7. This is the 2019 version

Yeah, with the cap going up over the next several seasons, I think $11m per year is actually a pretty fair deal. If nothing else, his contract should be tradable for the duration.

Everybody knows I'm not a Powell fan, but this could've been a whole lot worse. As for him being tradable, I'll believe it when I see it. :-O

I'm excited to have Powell locked up TBH I enjoyed watching him play late last year, but need to see a slight improvement on shooting. Consistency is next.

@espn_macmahon: Mavs have had productive discussions with Maxi Kleber and are optimistic about reaching a long-term deal with their restricted free agent power forward/center, per source.

He puts in the work at least. I will always respect that.

What's long-term now? 4 or 5 seasons? I really would like to see him stay.
