I've been trying to post this for a while, and finally found time.
Here's my top ten plays. I'm sure I missed some, but I think I got all the main ones. Feel free to post plays which you think should be on here, or to comment on the ones I listed. Or tell me I should have put so-and-so play higher, or make your own list, or whatever. I'm just not that picky. We had a lot of nice plays this year, and I think I did them justice. I sure tried.
10. Brandon Bass stuffs Gooden in Game 3 of the Spurs series
Maybe I'm overrating this, but this was the best block of the season. I'm not sure Gooden even releases it...Bass reacts so fast that he knocks the ball 5 rows up while it is still in Gooden's hand. Great play.
9. Jason Terry hits a 30-footer against the Lakers
I think all the fans thought the game was over. LA was up by 20 or so in the opening stages of the 3rd. Terry shot us back into this game. This 3rd quarter buzzer beater may have been the biggest. Too bad LA still won, but it was a heroic effort by Terry, capped off by this shot.
8. Gerald Green Putback vs the Thunder
This dunk comes from maybe the worst loss of the season. OKC pretty much demolished us, without Durant or Jeff Green. It was a pathetic performance. But you can't blame Green for this one. Man, if he ever gets meaningful minutes again, this is what he needs to be doing: soaring in for rebounds. He absolutely skied over the two Thunder and jammed it down. Extremely impressive.
7. Jason Terry dunk on Chandler vs NOH
Gotta love it when JET does this. Yes, it was in a losing effort, but Terry gets props for being able to posterize people at 6'2".
6. 3/4 Quarters court shot by Josh Howard
There is certainly some degree of luck involved with this, but this shot was sick. Great shot. Nice way to sneak in some assists for Kidd. I'm betting Kidd could have got 25+ assists had he played the 4th. And the Mavericks could have scored 150+.
5. Hollins alley-oop over several Rocket players
I'm not sure how Hollins does these dunks, or how Kidd throws these passes, but man do I love it when Hollins jams these oops. Throwing it down, and one, over several Rockets.
4. Jason Terry dunk on Randolph vs GS
I love me some Jason Terry. Look, we know he's not exactly good at defense, but sometimes you have to sacrifice defense so this can happen.Sick.
To those who think Terry pushed off Randolph so he could elevate enough to dunk it: Randolph moved his leg before Terry could have pushed off, in my opinion. That's all hops, no assistance necessary.
3. Dirk Nowitzki Buzzer Beater against Philadelphia
I remember in this game, with around 3 or 4 minutes left in the 4th, Reggie Evans was guarding Dirk. Evans flops at minimal contact, and Dirk is called for an offensive foul. Then, while arguing, he gets called for a technical.
And did that bother him? Apparently not. Beautiful spin move to shake off Evans this time, and drained the fadeaway. Textbook Dirk.
2. Jason Terry Buzzer Beater against Minnesota
This was amazing. Late in the season, and this win was crucial. Josh was out, and things were not looking very good. I remember saying several times before and after the game, "All I want is a win." And it didn't look like that would happen.
But a frantic 4th quarter comeback, and then this. Perfect play call by Carlisle, going with the hot hand, taking a risk by not going to the proven clutch performer, Dirk, but it paying off. Perfect in-bounds from Kidd to JET. Perfect pump fake, throwing Telfair off. Then perfect shot, swishing in. Just a great, clutch play. Sucks it has to be 2nd. But it is, because of...
1. Dirk Nowitzki Buzzer Beater against Indiana
This video is great. Shows all the great plays leading up to Dirk's bucket. And that's really what makes this so great. Its the Dirk/JET show in the 4th, classic Maverick basketball. Dirk hadn't shot so well in this game (you'll hear the announcer say "Dirk's 13th consecutive 20 point game...Dirk had just reached 20 points with that shot), but he came up with the last two clutch baskets. The shot was far from easy, fading away. Very good game. This is down the final stretch of the season, so it gets the #1 slot.
Oh, and can the announcer's reaction be any better? "No! NO!" That's epic. I love hearing that.
