Cuban's wedding dodges hurricane

09/25/2002

By ALAN PEPPARD / The Dallas Morning News

If you rushed to Jamaica last weekend to crash the wedding of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and his fiancee, Tiffany Stewart, you're probably still standing knee-deep in a puddle left behind by Hurricane Isidore and asking yourself, "Where is everybody?"

Dude, they are ? or were ? in Barbados. Sucker.

Last Wednesday, Mark flew friends and family to Dallas Love Field aboard his personal Gulfstream V. The next day they all came out to the airport to take the Mavericks' private 757 to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Months of planning went into booking the Silent Waters mountaintop compound for the ceremony. Dozens of Jamaican caterers and housekeepers as well as a chartered yacht awaited the Cuban party.

It fell to the 757 pilot to point out that Isidore was giving Jamaica such a soaking that the bride and groom might have to exchange vows through diving masks and snorkels.

The 757 was already loaded with cases of Cristal champagne and truckloads of decorations and exotic flowers. The pilot provided the couple with a short list of Caribbean destinations where the sun was still shining. They chose Barbados.

Then the work began for event planner Russell Holloway, who had made all of the preparations for Jamaica. During the entire flight, Russell worked the flight phone and fax machine like a monkey on amphetamines making new arrangements.

While the rain poured on Jamaica, the Cuban wedding party was living large on the sun-drenched beach at the Royal Pavilion Resort on Barbados.

After the celebrations were over, guests boarded the 757 for a ride back to Dallas, and Mark and Tiffany climbed aboard the Gulfstream V for their honeymoon. One hears they are somewhere near Greece, but one is not sure. For the first time ever, Mark did not respond to my e-mail. Now, what could he be doing that's more important?

Wow!

How does that song go?...
"It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures"

Actually rain on your wedding day is good luck and also means the couple will be blessed with many children.

Good luck Mark and Tiffany!!!

That's an aweful thing to say, Adam.

I would be willing to bet that Cuban didn't request her to sign anything (let alone "make her&quot He seems like the type of guy that wouldn't get married at all if he felt he needed the person to sign agreements.

It's nice that he's settling down in a way, but I don't expect or want this to change him.

It's a shame that their wedding didn't go as they had planned. I just hope they get some privacy and have a very happy life together.

If for some reason they get a divorce then won't she be entitled to half of everything he owns? If so, that can spell disaster for the Mavs organization
