He can't, because he's much, much more injury prone than Crash is. Inheirently, Josh is a jump shooter because it keeps him healthy. He should attack when he can, but the more he attacks the greater chance he has of getting injured and being out for more months at a time.
But let's not worry about what Josh can or can't be. Let's worry about our badass superstar Dirk Nowtikzi!
